Have you heard the Z1000? if not, what's the point then about gushing over how divine the Dt1350 sound in a Z1000 dedicated thread?

-Habib, comparing the ED9 and Z1000 detail retrieval ability from different rigs is a bit of a stretch don't ya think?

He was comparing them for portability so I made a suggestion.

Amarpheal, ED9 is 1k class headphone and Z1000 is $300 class priced at $500 :D

But I would not throw ED9 in my bag or wear them outdoors. And they need to be amped to sound good.

Sony will sell more Z1000 @ 299 or 250.

Can anyone give links to the US online store that sell the Mdr-Z1000 for the cheapest price and that post to UK. It's about £370 in the UK so im looking elsewhere.

You'd still have to pay the VAT, which would add some 20% to the price and custom fees if there are any, if you ship from the US. I would try other EU countries first, the VAT would already be included in the price and no custom fees.

I'm currently in Hong Kong, and had the opportunity to demo the Z1000 against the DT1350, AT ES10, and for reference an AT AD900 and Sennhesier HD650. (Two seperate auditions of around 1 hour each, out of both a BCL and an iPhone 4 ) I was really looking for a good portable-ish headphone for my birthday :D

I found that for me the Z1000 produced the most natural sound, in terms of detail, spatial cues, etc. The only comparison that had me scratching my head was the Z1000 vs the ES10, as the ES10 was still quite detailed and refined and had a lot more body and more engagement in the low end. In the end though the Z1000 still sounded more natural to me, with a more even tone vs the ES10's slightly recessed mids. I don't really hear any problems with the Z1000's treble, at least in comparison to the M50 which I can find gets piercing for me some time. So despite it being the highest in price, I ended up buying a pair. Happily listening to it now. :3

I walked into a Sony shop a few days ago, and picked up a z1000 on demo....
What surprised me was the rough gritty surface of the outer cups...
As if it's a sort of sandpaperish epoxy powered paint.
I dun remember the z1000 being that rough, my memory failing?
I tot it was a smooth texture...

Can some of u tell me the feel of your z1000cups?

Or has Sony tweaked the z1000?

The cups did feel a bit rough when I had them.
You should take some pictures to show if they look different from usual, since this kind of thing is hard to tell without visual (and physical) backup. :)

I have owned my pair for a while now, and the z1000's finish is slightly rough. I wouldn't call it sandpaper though. Nor would I call it smooth. It's moderately textured. The closest thing I can think of to compare it to is the surface of my bedroom wall, only rendered in plastic.
