Sony announced new flagship headphones: MDR-Z1000. Expected in November.

The MDR-Z1000, which is pictured above, features 5Hz – 80kHz frequency response, 24Ω impedance, and 108dB/mW sensitivity.

Are you sure thats their flagship? I think it should look a bit more like a high-end headphone if its going to be the best Sony heaphone  created, more like the R10.

And only 24ohms impedance?? For a $735 headphone??
Also dont like the look of those earcups. Looks cheap & plastic like my ath-ws50 earcups (Although my ws50 was only $75)

It's the sound that matters I think! And this still looks better than the Q701 or HD598 to me

From a closer look, these phones seem to be solid with leather pads and (probably) metal headband.

What do you mean with "only 24 Ohm impedance"? Do you actually think that more Ohm is better (maybe just because the T1 and HD800 are high impedance)?

Will this only be sold in Japan? I guess my dream of a 010 type headphone for 1,000-1,2000 will never happen.. If the street price is under 400 & betters the SA5000 technically, I'm sure I'd bite.. Ohms means nothing in regards to headphone wuality & sound.. All my headphones have a ohm rating of 5-120.. I am a big supporter of Sony, & glad they have comre out with their new flagship model.. I just hope it can compete with the likes of the LCD2/HD800 for less price..

Have you tried them or actually held them in your own hands? I didn't think so.

People always jump to conclusions about something without even trying them or seeing them in the flesh.

Sony know how to make some of the best headphones available (R10, Qualia), if they really put an effort in this model it could be REALLY good.

X2.  I've also been pleased with their SA5000 and 7509HD.  Sometimes, Sony really gets it right and I hope they did it again here.

What are you trying to say?  Impedance doesn't mean a thing until you know the output impedance of the amp you're plugging it into.

Honestly my XB700 looks fancier and more expensive than those. Hopefully that just means they invested more into the actual sound than the outer appearances.

All I know is sex sells and those aren't sexy.
