The headband and driver arms look like a ah-d 7000 in a way! How many things in this lifetime are way too complicated? Sony may be reevaluating the whole process of the headband and driver arms! A manufacturer has to always be changing the way they build and design things. I feel this is progress and can't wait to hear them.
They look like they may have a lack of bass but what do I know? I'm the farthest thing from an engineer. We need more cool minimalistic 70s looking stuff!
They are up on sony.jp site already along with the ZX series which looks like a successor to XB series with similar look as these Z1000 http://translate.google.com/translate?js=n&prev=_t&hl=sv&ie=UTF-8&layout=2&eotf=1&sl=ja&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.sony.jp%2Fheadphone%2Fproducts%2FMDR-Z1000%2Findex.html&act=url
Problem with the Z1000 is that it just looks like crap. No one is ever going to mistake it for a flagship. The Qualia and R10 looked gorgeous. This.... a cheap $100 M50 looks better than this.
The Z1000 is plain and unassuming, maybe even a little boring. But crap? No. It doesn't look like crap. The rebranded neon green AKG 701s look like crap.
I'm not sure the white one is a z1000. Notice the first black one has a detachable cable on the left cup. The white one (and the all black one) have cables going to both cups.
How is this a relevant comparison? The former models were statement products pricing several times as much and were not intended for mass production. I see this simple and unassuming design as appropriaty elegant, albeit the forks shoul've been more in line with the earcup's shape IMO.
So? All AT flagships up to L3000 were single-entry, no one seemed to care. I would rather lament about that iffy detachable connection but frankly, why bother .
