hi all i have the zx700 and it sounds darn good for its price.treble extends till 19khz, mids are a little forward like shure iems and right where i want it to be, bass is very fast, tight, and extends to about 25hz before rolling off. i think it would suit recording purposes before it is more on flat representation. now bring on the z1000 reviews

Based on nothing but the username, I will have to then guess that the zx700 is not worth the price, has treble rolloff, recessed mids and flaby, slow, rolled off bass.

Judging by your location I will guess you don't actually have to hear them to know everything about them.

The pads on these two look very different to me, so they could be the 2 different models.  The one on the left looks like leather, and the right pleather.  But hard to tell from a picture.

The cracking on the left pad and it's general stiffness is very good indicators of leather. The way you can see the stitching also suggest leather, since leather is so stiff it tends to spread closer to the stitching. The left one is the higher end one for sure, you can see better material used for the head band material as well as the extender arms.

I tried Best Denki today to see if they have them and they don't, only the lower models and not even on their listening rack yet.  Oh well, I'll probably have to wait until next year to try them.

My brother just forwarded me the email from PriceJapan. It will take two weeks for them to get it in stock. I told him to wait it out, since Audiocubes (who also has the Z1000 listed) would take around a month from my recent experience. Plus the price is lower on PriceJapan.

I think the wider release date for Japan is November 10. Somehow the headphones shop in Osaka got them in a week earlier. I should have put this here earlier but here are my impressions from a brief audition.

The price difference on the ZX700 vs Z1000 is a bit scary. 170 vs 800 USD. mmm I'm guessing ZX700 is not a magnesium housing unicorn drool driver diaphragm version or a 7n ofc cable (also, the cable does not look replaceable)? ... http://www.sony-asia.com/product/CompareProducts.action?site=hp_en_AP_i&models=MDR-Z1000&models=MDR-ZX700&models=MDR-EX1000&models=MDR-EX600

I think the frame is made from unicorn horn.  The earpads are made from hydra skin and stuffed with griffon down.

Of course a unicorn dies if you remove its horn.  A unicorn has to die for every pair of Z1000s produced.  I hope you unicorn killing bastards are happy with yourselves.

A reliable source also informs me that the ED10 voice coils are made from copper mined in Mercuria, Second layer of Celistia, and the titanium drivers are quenched in the blood of angels.

heh. pity none of the cool stuff from Z1k or ex1k made it into the ex600 or zx700...oh well. would've been awesome, if those had smaller drivers of the same type, as opposed to making any extrapolation useless.

This IEM is said to borrow quite a bit from the CD900ST: http://www.headfonia.com/sony-mdr-ex800st/

It's also sold by Sony Music: http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=ja&u=http://www.smci.jp/MDR-EX800ST/

a cd900st/z1k comparison would be interesting both being monitoring and 40mm, the cd900st has a lot of bass but bloated as hell to my ears.
