I don't know about ps500 never heard it. But yes, IMO those listed my Mad Dogs are "better" and many people have left LCD's for LFF's
Paradox. Though his phone is very neutral, it's not for everyone.

There isn't a "best" just a preferred. The Mad Dog mod is what I went with, I do plan on getting the Paradox..sometime...
I think if you're interested in either you should contact mrspeakers for the Mad Dogs and LFF for the Paradox.
And check this thread out: http://www.head-fi.org/t/452404/just-listened-to-some-fostex-t50rps-today-wow/8565#post_8454123

Yes, it is also one of the most active threads. LFF's Paradox is a T50RP mod as is mrspeakers Mad Dog, as is Smeggy's Thunderpants.
I didn't mention/recommend the Thunderpants because they're above the desired budget. I also don't think they're as good as LFF or mrspeakers.
Hmmm - hearing being the subjective beast that it is, I can only share my 2 cents. I've heard both (though I've only heard Mr. Speakers mods briefly), and my preference is for Paradox. As I've heard a couple different versions of mrspeakers modded T50RP, I will say that the most recent build I heard (at the Village in LA) were the best (in comparison to his earlier efforts). That said, Paradox is more neutral, more dynamic and more spacious. Three qualities I greatly value.
