Overture on Live! has some serious deep bass drum as well. This album is on Spotify in 320KB. I'll be going to Oslo next week so will try to see if I can find these in the recordshop on Karl Johan (if it's still there, haven't been to oslo for several years now).

And now back at the hotel listening to Live! using HM-801 as usb dac and balanced amp to drive balanced HE-500, this sounds fantastic even in 320KB

Many recordshops have been shut down in Oslo lately :frowning2: But this is the place for Jazz records in Oslo: http://www.barejazz.no/ in the middle of town, close to Stortorget. And you should check the concerts at http://www.nasjonaljazzscene.no/

That one I didn't know, will give it a try. The one I was thinking of was on Karl Johan up towards the university more or less next to Hard Rock, and then the 2 story one in the Oslo City shopping centre next to Centralstationen. I'm only there for the day Tuesday so no concerts

edit: It has moved but it is now only selling classical music - which it is good at. http://www.musikk-huset.no/ Kirkegata 30

Too bad no concerts - it is a fabolous scene with good sound gear :))

I have a really serious question about the HE500.

The HE500.... the treble, smooth, or sparkly? One thing that is a definite, is that I still need some semblance of sparkle from my treble.

The HE-500's treble is as smooth as silk and there is more bass with more control that extends further than the DT880, to these ears. The DT880's are rather bass-shy and hotter in the higher frequencies in my experience. Mathematically, the HE-500's are 1.39 x better than the Beyer's.

Called HeadRoom again, to cancel. He told me to hold on because they had just filled four orders. Unfortunately MY order got leapfrogged and was not filled, and he said it would be another 10-17 days before he'd expect to be able to fill my order. So I canceled and went and ordered from Head-Direct.

I understand a back order (it was my mistake in not using Head-Direct to start with). But not updating the order status, not updating the backorder message on the site, and then losing my order and not filling it is inexcusable.

I too agree that it's more silky than sparkly, that is why I have HE-5 to fill in the energetic, sparkly treble spot.

Sampson I have a question, on which amp do you like your HE-500 the most, Woo or the Lyr?

I suppose you can but I never mess with EQ, the treble of HE-500 is fine for me.

lol...yh but my point was why do u need the he5 for the treble when you can just use the eq with the he-500 and save around £500

Because

a) I've had the HE-5 looong time before buying the HE-500
b) It's not just the treble that is different but midrange and bass as well.
c) They look prettier than HE-500
d) They are discontinued now.
e) It's not like I switch cans just for the treble response. HE-500 are better cans overall but I don't think I'll be parting with HE-5 because they were the best I've heard until I got the HE-500.

How do these do with electronic (house, dubstep, trance, etc) music?

It seems like the HE-500 has good speed from all the reviews. So, electronica = good.
