oh hi. i met you at there when you are about to leave. have a nice flight back to okinawa!!

Yes, I thought that was you.  Nice to meet you!

I thought that was the best thing they made. I liked it a lot.
Good choice!

Yes, I was thinking I'd really like the KL-REF, but no amp setup I had seemed to make it through my bass torture test.  I don't think I was giving them enough power or perhaps a bad impedance mismatch.  But then I thought to myself, I've already got the ASG 2.5s, so don't try to get the same type of monitor.

I really enjoyed the ATH-IM04, but the fit was very awkward and bass started to fall over at my idiotic listening volumes.

I'm now anxiously waiting until Octoberish to pick up my customs.

I went with:

KL-KANON (6BA / Dial Type).  Left Glass Bottle Green and Blue Glitter face plate with no markings.  2 pin. Right: Sakura shell, Red Glitter plate.

Honestly not that bad in price.  The ATH-IM04 is about 70000 here, and these came to another 50000 on top of that for custom + 2 more BAs per side, and they are absolutely beautiful.  I'd say well worth it.

Do you guys have to use special tools or something... That's a pretty tight fit I'd say, if it fits at all

I don't know if they made different sizes but the 2 sets a i had, fit. Like i said, sometimes you have to get the nozzle of the 2.5 wet to slide on a tip. Just damp it, you can lick you fingers and apply it on the flange.  that will give it enough lube so the tips will slide on.

If it still dosn't fit then you might have the wrong size.  I know on the spinfit site, there are different sizes for different iems.

Good point bro, I didn't even think about the spinfits and their nozzle sizes. That could be.

I just put one side on first, I kind of squeeze the base of the top and then push it over. Hard to explain but it works.

I know I said this before, but after buying and experiencing the EX800ST (taped), XB90Ex and ASG2.5 with the Cayin C5, I think I can say this with a little bit more authority, especially after getting the Moon Audio Black Dragon cable:

JH Audio Layla, with bass knob turned max, is basshead (not bassy) material, and should even rank in the top 10 list.

You may still be in doubt since it is BA, but coming from someone with the above IEMs, I think this statement goes a long way. Do go ahead and demo it. Not so sure about the custom version, but at least I feel this is true for the universal version. Given the sound quality, this may just be the best IEM for bassheads.

The Sonys although very good and clear in the mids, still have a slight veil due to the classic Japanese coloration. The Layla, on the other hand, is audiophile material, gets rid of the veil, yet still can deliver the bass like the big boys mentioned.

Don't get me wrong - I will still reach for C5 and Ex800ST for extreme bass stuff, and grab the ASG2.5 if I am on the go just with the iPhone and like some hard hitting electronics or hip hop that day, but if your song list is not purely made up of those (like mine), Layla may just be the way to go.

Cheers all,
Louis Armstrong

You are second person to say that to me. I have thr perfect iem for when I want less bass (damn, I shudder just typing such obscenities), Tralucent Plus 5. Still hits hard, but everything else is quite good too. I won't even get into the layering of the bass (that's for you Chris). Mr. Armstrong... Sublime. Simply sublime.

I definitely want to hear the Layla. Have you compare to the Roxannes?

I haven't heard the Roxanne.

One caveat: you need to use Comply TX500 wax guard foam tips for the Layla. Stock tips give crappy bass. I achieved more depth/layer with the Black Dragon cable, but the effect is not nearly as significant as changing to Comply tips.

I can agree with this statement I was totally shocked that the laylas had decent bass. I like the tx500 wax guard but they keep plugging my ears and sucks out all of the treble for me, believe it or not the tx200s work just as well without losing the treble and still keep the bass.

Hmmm,

I have not tried it with the comply tips but I had the Layla at home for a week (from a friend) and I really liked the bass adjustment but overall wasn't that impressed. Don't get men wrong, absolutely amazing IEM  - - - BUT, for more than $2k I expected more. Especially clarity in the treble and was a bit, ho-hum. Anyhow, my friend got it used and it was only $1,100 so for that amount of money, I would say he made as steal. Guess I have to borrow them again with the comply tips.

Cheers!
