I don't have an external amp...my main listening source is from my LG V10 with PowerAmp Alpha, HiFi Everywhere DAC Fix and EQ Sound Amplifier activated with both XB90EX and EX800ST (taped).
 
To me...bringin' tha bass is no problem!

I use the Xb90ex without an amp with my V10. Without V4A, not very good. With V4A, sounds pretty damn good.

Found my old Fiio X3 OG, sounds pretty damn good with the Sonys. I'll try it with my C5 tomorrow, bass up of course. Should sound incredible. Love my Fiio X3, great player. Just wish it had a better UI.

I'm sure V4A makes a much needed improvement...I think PowerAmp Alpha is another great alternative...addition with the EQ Sound Amplifier boost.
Do you use the AUX mode trigger with an adapter?
 
I won't even listen to either of the XB90EX or EX800ST without it!

Yes, I usually do use one. I need a better adapter though. I'm using my 3.5-->6.3mm adapter that I use for my Th900, but I added another, 6.3--3.5 plug so I can plug the IEMS jack in. It's a bad connection, sometimes the music drops.

I was reading on the V10 that someone used a inline remote to trick the amp/dac into high impedance mode, which sounds better than auxiliary mode. Have to check into that.

I also downloaded Poweramp alpha, but haven't installed or tried it just yet.

Just tried my X3 with the C5, really punches hard. Small stack too. Still prefer the V10 with V4A though. Hard for me to go back to anything, I truly love V4A.

Pretty much the only way I want to listen to music now. Which, is why I want the Fiio x7 again... Real dedicated dap with V4A... Balanced or medium power amp... Ooooooh Yea!!

I love my old X3 and if you like this sound you will also love the Cowon Plenue D.
