The stock cable is steel.  Not good for sound at all, in my opinion.  Copper should give a noticed improvement...

I don't know but they look quite poorly made for the price. 
Have a look for Custom Cans on eBay and you'll get a better deal and a decent cable.
If you can stretch your budget a bit farther, 
Look for Toxic Cables and Forza Audioworks on here. 
Frank from TC re cabled my HD25's and his cables are EPIC.
As for Matthew from FAW, I haven't seen a HD25 cable yet but Im sure he'll build one for you

Does anyone have any suggestions for a complimentary pair of portable cans for the HD25 ALU? I tried the HP50 already but had comfort issues

I wonder why since they get so much hate for sibilance. It's funny that they sound so good for music too
