[GUIDE] Sonic Differences Between DT770-DT990 Models & More

I specifically prefer the Pros because they fit tighter, while still being comfy. The Premiums are a bit loose and tend to hurt my neck due to constant re-adjusting.

To sound good yeah you need a decent amp , but it's listenable from an ipod there is sound and it's not as bad as "i can't use them " ... But i would not advice any one to use a ipod as source for a DT-880-600 ohms , just if you are amp less for a day or two , it will not kill you to plug your DT-880 on your ipod

Thanks for pointing that out.
You are correct, I can use my DT880s with an iPod, etc.
But, personally, I don't, 'cos I don't like it.  So I have tried it and the DT880s and I survived the barbaric treatment! LOL

I have other 'phones for the iPod, ipad, etc.   Like the Senn PX-100 ii.
When I bought the 600 Ohm Beyers my personal intention was to always use them with an appropriate amp.

Is the DT990 Pro much better than DT 770 80ohm? ( for electronic music and movies/serials ) I'm looking to buy one of them but I'd like a closed phone because I think im not going to get the most out of the 990. Noisy computer and tv in the other room are probably going to interfere my listening with dt990.

If you need closed and like it bassy and have a decent headphone amplifier, then get the DT770 Pro 80-Ohm.
Check eBay for used ones.

I found 770pro and 990pro very similar.
990pro will have more spatial advantage since it has open back.

If you need closed phone, go for the 770.

But personally, if I was to choose a Beyer portable closed phone I will choose DT1350

Alright, placed my order with B&H.  It was close between thet dt990 pro's and the Ultrasone 780's - But B&H has the 990's for like $179, which isn't much more than the 780s.  So, I pulled the trigger...hopefully my ipod classic and headstage arrow 12he can power them adequately..now the wait LOL.

I'm only going to use it in home, so portability isn't important at all. What's a good desktop amp for 770pro 80? Fiio E9?

The Fiio E9 would be more then enough to drive the DT770 Pro 80-Ohm headphones.

I don't have experience with the arrow 12he but I think you'll be fine. According to their site it can power up to 600 ohm headphones though that is probably a stretch. As long as you can get adequate volume out of it you should be fine. Enjoy!

Thanks a lot Zombie_x for the writing. Probably helped hundreds with what Bayerns to get.

I'm likely to buy DT990 Pro's very soon (paired with Xonar Essence ST), but before that how is the mid bass on them?
In comparison i did not find pretty much no mid bass at all on my HD598. Music i listen to (acid jazz and funk) to me is much driven by the mid bass, rather than deep bass.
