Damn i always had the impression that my DT-880-600 was brighter and colder than my K702  , or perahs it's just an impression by the more proeminent treble on DT-880 ?
My DT-880-600 , was light on bass impact just a tad more than my K702 ... but bass were fuller sounding , more quantity .

Well at that time "only" had a C2.1 to power them , and never could choose beetween them , finaly sold both  , T1 cleared this dilema .
But sometimes i think how DT-880-600 would have sound with Auditor ...

Um, OK.

I think it's a bit worrisome seeing Beyerdynamic alter the sound signature of the same model, without mentioning it. Like how MMX300s are either bass heavy, or bass light.

My used DT880 Pro 250-Ohm arrived about five minutes ago, sound is fine.
But the Velour ear pads seem softer then my DT770 and DT990 pads,
is this normal or have the ear pads on the DT880 just lost the firmness from use?

DT 770 pads and DT 880 pads are different, the latter being shallower, softer and less isolating. But DT 990 and DT 880 pads are the same.

- 600Ohm
This is the best model of this headphone available. It has very smooth treble in comparison to the other Ohm models and is even more extended and detailed. The treble also no longer seems to trample over the other frequencies, but is more integrated with them. The midrange on this headphone is far better than the other Ohm DT770 models. Because the treble has been smoothed out and toned down a little bit, the midrange has made a nice appearance and is also very transparent sounding with lots of detail. The mids are just right in my mind on this phone and the best of the DT770 line. Now the bass on these is full, has nice texture, and has more weight to it. It’s definitely more pronounced than its 250Ohm counterpart. Also the bass is much faster sounding on this model and is also deeper sounding as well. The soundstage is also bigger than the other three models and possesses nice depth, width, and height.

Also there seems to be another variation of the 600Ohm model floating around which has just as much bass as the 80Ohm model. I have heard the new 600Ohm model first hand and it sounds incredibly similar to the muddy sounding 80Ohm version. The new version is very tight in the bass and does not have that overly boomy sound to it's bass, well it does bu not as bad. The treble is no longer smeared and the mids don't sound as cluttered.

EDIT: The treble in comparison to the DT990 is nearly on the same level and is also not shrill or strident. Despite me saying the treble is smooth, it's still very prominent and pronounced.

So is there actually another DT770 600ohm version? I can't find any research on it or what the two versions would look like. And what would be the better one that Zombie was describing? Is it the difference between the 2005 version and current? I feel so confused

What is better dt 770 pro 80 or 250?
They'll be run from an O2

I like the DT770 Pro 250-Ohm a little better then the Pro 80-Ohm.
But, if you can get the 80-Ohm for way way cheaper then the 250-Ohm, just take the 80-Ohm.

I got a pair yesterday,the 990- 250ohm....here:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0011UB9CQ/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00.

They ,without a doubt, the most comfortable headphones I own, slightly better than even my HD650's
People say they are bright,....I think they are a little on the dark side,& have a beautiful SQ..just my .02 cents
I'm using them,with Foobar-lyr/bifrost..mullard CV2493 tubes.
I definetly recommend them ,especially new,at this price=$199.00

Why?
Just curious, because I never heard the DT770 pro 250 ohm myself.

I think the DT770 250-Ohm has a slightly better clarity then the DT770 80-Ohm.

Why buy the DT770 80-Ohm  if it is way way cheaper then the 250-Ohm.
Because the differences is not really noticeable unless you own both, and I own both.

Also another factor that might make the difference is when using my Yamaha RX-V671.
I'm "guessing" the Yamaha's headphone jack has a high impedance, something above 10-Ohm (like 20-Ohm, 30-Ohm, 40-Ohm?)
The high impedance might be have a negative effect on the audio of the 80-Ohm DT770, that does not effect the 250-Ohm DT770.
I'm making guesses on stuff without a lot of hard facts.

Keep in mind that the O2 will drive 600 Ohm 'phones.

Beyer states that the 600 ohm versions have the lighter diaphragms, and therefore will be more responsive to the input signal.

well i cant seem to find the 600 ohm premiums for any reasonable price so i think ima go with 250 ohm pros

I think it sounds reasonable to go with the highest impedance Beyer 'phones you can afford (or want to afford!

)

The 80 Ohm Beyers were really designed for use with small portable devices.
The O2 is much better and outputs far more voltage than most average portable units:  the iPhones, iPods, iPads and similar products.
