Final Audio D8000 Planar Magnetic Headphone

I've tried the Burson Soloist 3X with my D8Kpro.
Very good !
Exactly like my SP200
Or my Shiit Magnius...
In fact, with these incredible D8KPro, only the tube amp xDuoo TA-30 shows some very slight (and delicious) difference. The ss amps are too close of each other to justify the expense.
The D8Kpro is almost "amp insensistive" !
Yessir, it absolutely sucks-in the valve flavour due to its amazing capacity to pick and show everything

Hey guys, seeing the comparison with the Empyrean a few pages back I was wondering which one of the two was your personal preference.

I had 1 week with the D8000 pro and loved it. Bass had totl texture, speed and the necessary impact when called for. One of the best I've heard period. The mids had great clarity and realism while the highs were snappy and detailed without too much harshness. The voicing by Final is pretty smart here being mostly neutral but also fun. The soundstage was definitely smaller than HD800 but I preferred it as it imaged better imho. More coherent and intimidate when needed.

The only thing I missed was some warmth and body in the vocals why is why I am asking about Empyrean.

P.S I liked D8000 pro out of the hp output of a tube integrated amplifier like the Copland CTA-408 more than I did from Rme Adi-2 Pro (which is definitely more powerful). If that says anything about tubes with D8000 pro.

Then you most certainly should audition the Empyrean!

You have an extremely capable HP there. Why not just add a little bit of EQ and you still have a HP better than Empyrean plus the mids you like?

Already tried it but I preferred the D8000 pro stock. Probably because I didn't have measurements to base my EQ on like I did with my other headphones (ΗD800, HD 650, Atticus, HE-560 and more). My time with it was limited so If I get it again I might be able to experiment more but still I prefer small EQ adjustments for minor corrections and not drastic changes as a headphone's character can't and should not change with just EQ.

So you think that at least technically the D8000 pro is superior to the Empy? That's what I get from reviews.

I didn't compare them side by side, but first I tried the Empy and then some time later D8000 Pro, and yes, I think D8000 Pro is technically superior to Empy. But the two are _very_ different sounding HPs.

I'm loving my d8000p, it's like a different experience every time I listen and when listening to different genres. I almost want a med Fi amp to calm down the detail when I'm in the mood to listen to garbage music lol.

What kind of amp/dac would be good pairing to increase bass slightly and add "musicality" to the vocals. I have tubes in mind but I'm not an expert and I know alot of you are.

I've tried a Little Dot I+ with Mullard valves and a Burson v5i and it is really fun to listen to, kind of brighty but fun for sure and very cheap

Valhalla 2 with Tung Sol 5670 is really smooth and pleasant, this HP sucks every valve's properties and exploits it really well

You can add this amp to the list for D8000P as A+ tier

Kinki THR-1 Synergy is unreal. Soundstage is so precise and feel so real, very holographic. Bass is very present, mids are now in harmony with lows and highs no need to EQ the 3k dip, treble is really texturized... And every sound has its own body and feels so organic, endgame for classical music lovers.

I can go to 10:30-11 in the pot in low ohms mode for medium-low listening and rock-&-roll at 12, will try balanced soon but it is unbelievable how good it sounds with SE silver cable.

Edit: 6 Hours later, I can no longer go 10:30-11, comfortable listening levels are now 8:30, loud 10:00 and too loud 11. Device was already burnt but it takes some time to heat up and be ready

Toying with the idea of the THR-1 for the standard D8000. Are you expecting anything different from the 'balanced' output?

I've tried balanced but it spits so much power I have to lower digital volume, it already sounds great from the SE so I'd stick to SE for now.

I might try XLR or RCA attenuator (input), maybe, and keep researching about the amp, it is not really balanced so you get the same from RCA and XLR.

So far it pairs really well, feels like I removed a thin veil compared to Singxer SA-1 and now I'm getting even more resolution. It is really overwhelming delivering music and with a HP like the D8000 Pro where you get every song to sound exactly as it was intended to sound I am finally using no EQ at all and just having fun.

I can recommend THR-1 used or go higher tier from Kinki as THR-1 is "old" already, it looks like this company knows what they are doing.
