The Sony MDR-V6 headphones are not under $50, they are more like $70-$80.
If you can use semi-open headphones, Takstar Hi2050 (Technical Pro HPT990) sell for $50.

Just came back from Guitar Center, they didn't have the Sony but here's what I've tried:
 
Audio-Technica ATH-M50 (I couldn't stop listening to these, best of all today's)
 
beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO (extremely comfortable but 0 isolation, maybe it's their "thing")
 
Sennheiser HD 280 PRO (I liked these more than the 380 PRO)
Sennheiser HD 380 PRO
 
Shure SRH440 (even here, I liked these more than the 840)
Shure SRH840
 
 
I still want to test the Sony but I think I am pretty much already sold for the M50, they are what I am looking for in a pair of headphones.
 
 
Crazy question, it is just me or IEMs are overall better than these big headphones?
