Beats Solo 2: Is the Head-Fi community willing to give these a fair chance?
Aug 15, 2014 at 10:21 PM Post #16 of 444
I'm pretty much brand agnostic, but if a much maligned (in this community) company like Beats by Dre puts out something that someone respected in the community really likes, I'm all for it. Just lights the fire in the competition that Beats won't be as much of a step child in the more audiophile market as they were in the past.

Hey guys have you seen Tyll's review? I think there should really be a discussion for these hps. Can we start one here. It would really help my desicion on my next purchase.

This link has Tyll's video review, and I agree with what Tyll said (especially when he compares the Solo 2 to the Momentum): http://www.head-fi.org/t/730795/beats-solo2-on-tyll-hertsens-wall-of-fame

Hmmmm…..  Didn't see them on the wall, but it looks like it has only been an hour or two?  I won't buy them, can't stand on ear headphones.  I'd consider something closed, over ears that didn't suck and wasn't a combination of ugly and bling, in the $200 +/- range.  something that plays well from an iPhone and won't break my heart if I kill it accidentally.  Basically great sounding, closed over ear beaters.  If Beats makes 'em, I'll try 'em.  Not the Solo2, but only because of the form factor.  Well, and the beatsbling look….  I haven't been cool enough to pull off that look for at least 25 years….

Yeah, perceptions sometimes aren't the best thing in this world, so who cares what other people thinks regarding most things in this world.  If you (us as a whole) like it, and it's legal, then more power to ya! :L3000:

Absolutely, but I've got in so much trouble in defending beats cans I should know better than get emotionally invested in a brand of headphones - lol - maybe it's because beats got me into this hobby and I just can't stand some of the unnecessary derogatory remarks that have been made about beats and owners that has caused me to overstep things here at times.

But this review by Tyll is a tide/game changer for perceptions of beats (I hope) as Tyll is such a respected critic of headphones and the personal audio world at large :)

Competition is healthy and you're right in this remark as the push to outdo the competition by brands will lead to better innovations and quality which ultimately benefit the consumer.

I bet you could carry the beats look off - no problemo

Subbed for the LuLs from all the butt hurt fan bois out there, you know who you are.

LoL :D

I believe in this. I've never been a true fan of previous V-Moda sets before the XS.

Good to see Beats actually stepping up.

This is by far the biggest evolution of the beats sound and the most significant review of beats headphone to date, courtesy of the legend, Mr. Tyll Hertsens

These are quite newly released so you may have to wait some time before you see any price reductions and that's usually only when a new model is about to be released replacing the previous one, so maybe solo2 will be price reduced when solo3 comes out - but that's probably a long way off from now I'd guess

I've merged the multiple threads on these.

It is so funny though… Before Mister Tyll said some good of the Solo2, no one ever dare to post something positive about these. I can't imagine that no one ever tried the Solo2. So all we had was people complaining about a headphone they hadn't tried. Or they tried them, and refuse to believe what they were hearing… just because of Beats!

Even more funny, is that now, after Tyll's review, every one starts to say good things about these.

It may be time that we trust our own ears, in lieu of trusting someone else's ears.

Just saying.
