500$ to spend, what headphones
zupa, 650s are great cans. I doubt you will be disappointed with them. Keep in mind that to hear the best out of them a decent source and amp are essential. If you find them 'boring' you can always upgrade to something brighter later. 650s have good resale value so you could get a good...- tune_in

Good Amp for HD650 and Marantz 5001 combo
Look into an amp from Purity Audio. They should be buliding more in the next few months so you could get one then. I absolutely love the way the Caliente version sounds with 650s.- tune_in

First listening impressions/reviews of Q1 2009 Purity Audio Kicas and Caliente Group buy
Wow that blue IS stunning! Received the 650s today and there is no doubt that combined with the Caliente they are a great duo. Now with near 35 hours on the Caliente and only 5 hour old 650s I dont think ill need to upgrade any time soon. The amp has plenty of juice, I really only had to...- tune_in

First listening impressions/reviews of Q1 2009 Purity Audio Kicas and Caliente Group buy
so much for waiting .. might as well listen while burning in. It really turns the the M50 into a bass monster! Incredibly it at no time yet has overpowered the mids or highs and VERY punchy. Also the treble is noticibly more extended, to me at least.. with this gear. I'm really...- tune_in

First listening impressions/reviews of Q1 2009 Purity Audio Kicas and Caliente Group buy
Got mine today and out of the box I have to say I am impressed with the build quality, light weight yet rock solid. For burn in i'm using a 'not so good source' but even so I can definitely tell that the bass has alot more control.. nice! Can't wait to hook it up to the Onkyo ... Oh and...- tune_in

Amazon CD Player
I have the Onkyo and to my ears it sounds very balanced. Great build quality, the only thing I don't like is the power cord is non detachable. Still the one it does come with is fine, ive had no problems. The Marantz has cd text which is a feature I wish the Onkyo had, but the Onkyo has a...- tune_in

I would get the Caliente.. Its designed to be warm and from reading, its seems to work well with both those cans. Plus with the CAD to $ conversion rate its a real good 'bang for the buck'. I think today is the last day to get in on the group buy. So if you decide to go that route I would...- tune_in

alright HERES The Deal
Look at Audio Tehnica studio monitors like the M40fs or M50. They have great build quality, but can clamp a bit. The HD280 sounds good, and they are more comftorble if you have to wear them for a longer period of time.- tune_in

Sennheiser HD595 for Trance?
The M50 I think would be a good choice for you. They are studio monitors with a bit extra bass response and a decent soundstage. Depending on how big your head is comfort could be an issue though. From reading the forums you might also want to check out the Q40 or RP21. I really can't...- tune_in

DT-770 Left/Right emphasis
I noticed the same thing your describing with a pair of HD485 I used to have. I always thought it was because the cord was one sided, the wire that then connects to the other driver can cause a very slight 'lag' in signal. However, the cans I use now are one sided and I dont notice a problem...- tune_in

Corda Arietta Questions
Thanks for the responses. After reading Skylabs review, it seems that the Arietta may be a even better deal then I thought before. I dont need a DAC and if it is close to the more expensive Cantate, that would be impressive. About the Crossfeed, I guess I was hoping it was going to be a...- tune_in

Corda Arietta Questions
Ive been thinking of getting an amp for my ath m50. The Arietta seems like a good bang for the buck, but I have a few questions. Is it good for low impedance cans? What does it sound like? I'm looking to tighten up the bass response without losing quantity, also I do not want to...- tune_in

Need help deciding between headphones for metal.
can't comment on the MS1, but the px100 is great for metal. they have excellent low end for all that double bass, slightly rececced mids and clear non fatiguing highs. Very easy to drive, so it should sound good out of any source.- tune_in

Comments on ATH M50?Also thinking about the Denon 2000 now!
ive had my m50s for about a two weeks now and think they are great for electronic music. i was looking to upgrade from my px100 to a nice full size can, and after trying the hd485 and pioneer m390 I ended up getting the m50 and am glad I did. ATH-A900 are they right for me?
the ATH-M50looks nice. These are considered studio monitors, a flat frequency could sound nice and there 38 ohms. Might not be as comfortable as the a900 though.- tune_in
