a500 is a closed can where as the ad700 is open. I have not listened to them side by side, but generally a closed can will have the bigger bass sound you want. the AD700 is very popular though

5.1 "surround sound"
is a gimmick,
a marketing trick to get people who don't know a whole bunch about headphones (no offense) to buy their product.

"surround sound", "noise cancellation",
My favorite is:
"made for ipod"
yea....

now you know.

Yea, i like my akg k81 if i want some bass. Thats my budget recommendation under 100. Haven't heard the hd212 but ive read that it outperforms the senns.

That's like saying my S550 is better than Mercedes-Benz.

MB makes the S550 as Sennheiser makes the HD212

Ad700's have more than just bass. Wipe them off the list.

Noise cancellation isnt always a gimmick. There are systems that will play an interpolated difference between left and right to eliminate destructive interferance. I love the "made for ipod" one, though - especially when it's a low quality product and white

No.

You want bass.

AD700's do not have much bass.

Do not get the AD700.

to be honest, if you want BASS, you should look at the D2000/DT770 pro (80 ohm) and forget what ever other people say (except skylab)

try some porta pros
I'm not too sure what the cheapest amp you can get for those headphones are (probably somewhere around 15 USD), but you can definitely get those two phones for ~140 USD.
http://cgi.ebay.com/beyerdynamic-DT-...QQcmdZViewItem
you can get the 770 for $99 (decent price) from a powerseller with good ratings there (no refund) - but it IS BDA. you should be able to get a modest amp to power them for a few $
EDIT: you'd have to check the other forum for an amp....
