Silver AKG K141: What a bargain! Condition not too good though...
Got them for $16USD off and online auction site 
They are probably the most beautiful headphones I've ever owned. Gotta love that retro style!
As for the condition, not too good. The leather on the pads had peeled off and they were completely pancaked. There were powdery remnants of yellow foam (presumably from inside them) everywhere, and the foam disc in the middle of the drivers had disintegrated too. The elastics have also turned into string, hence the rubber band. Slight scratching on the silver part, but not too bad.
Instead of paying heaps of money to buy all the replacement parts from AKG, is there any alternative? How thick, approximately are the foam discs?
Sound impressions once I've got that all sorted

You can make your own pads. Not THAT hard. Find some random foam, and maybe the method of changing K340 elastics works here.

I should mention I already have pads that work well/better than the original. They're velour ones, around the size of the K701 pads but softer. They fit over the top of the K141's quite well.
I could replace the elastics but then I'd have no use for the rubber bands.

Sound impressions with non-standard circumaural pads and no foam discs:
Insane energy! I can FEEL the impact of snare drum hits. It's incredible! Bass extends pretty low and has impact, but its not that prominent. The mids are quite nice and sweet, like an AKG although they sound a bit thin and recessed. Soundstage with the circumaural pads is actually not too bad. It's not extremely massive like the AD700's, but the placement is pretty good, like a Grado. Nice amount of detail too...
The sound changes HEAPS depending on where they are placed on my head.

I cant diss old cans since my DT48s are over 50 yrs old..As you will see, there is something very special about vintage headphones.

if i remember correctly, i read in a old thread that these silver k141's are suppose to have the same driver as the sextetts, minus the passive radiators.

They were my first studio headphones and I had the gold version. From what I remember, they had an impressive flat response. Great monitor headphones. I gave them as a present to a starving musician, but I would be happy to try out the silver version. I think there is a difference between them. They don't need a lot of power to drive them, if I remember.

There must be quite a difference between them. These ones need ALOT of power to drive.
I wouldn't call them completely flat. They have a slightly recessed treble. I may keep them as monitor headphones too.
They do sound pretty nice but going back to my AD700's after using them is like opening the curtains in a dark room.
