Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I would say try with the magni maxed and, if you're not getting any noise, just use the freya volume. If you do get noise at max volume from magni, just back it off until you don’t hear any noise, and then just use the freya volume. That’s the process I would use if it were me, anyway

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Yeah, I'd say snag another anyway in case you find yourself with more efficient speakers later, but if that scenario isn't in the cards, probably not worth it. I'm planning some high volume fun with these later this week. I don't "want" to send them into shutdown, but with many things I like...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I believe it is. It held up well, but after 12 years, the dogs have definitely taken their toll. As of now, that one is "their" couch

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Hi all, I'm a longtime lurker with only a few posts under my belt, but I wanted to pop in and share. I just snagged a last call aegir to go with my other one before they were gone so I can monoblock, and holy moly I'm digging it! One aegir drove my Tekton lore minis just fine, but two is...

I seem to remember a Darko review of the emotiva player and it didn't do gapless. A definite gripe for him.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I have had the Lore minis for over a year and used them with a ta100 until very recently when I grabbed a Freya+/Aegir combo. I should try using the ta100 as a preamp and compare with the sound as an integrated. I was pretty happy with the sound of the ta-100, but in comparison, the new setup...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Mani got be started, but Vali 2 and a modi2u really hooked me. Right now, I'm really excited about my new Freya+ and Aegir. They're knocking me out driving my Tekton lore minis. Not sure which is my fav, as I use them as a system. I'm sure my favorite in the future will be the next piece I...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Just dropped some hot black schiit into my *to this point* beer-budget setup. Freya+ and Aegir playing very nicely so far. This big load all started when I was using my Mani > vali2 with RCA black plate 6sn7 > emotiva integrated and digging the bit of tube flavor on the vinyl, and then tried...

    Official Schiit Vali 2 Thread

Trying my vali 2 as a tube pre from my Mani to my vintage Yamaha integrated and I'm really enjoying the results. Definitely adds some depth. And I love this rca black plate 6sn7 😁

I can tell you, for me, the Vali 2 plays very nicely with my he400i. I'm sure Vali 2+ will be great with them

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Speaking of pleasant distortion, I'm breaking in a new EH 6922 in my Vali 2. I'm enjoying the differences so far. Vali 2 is totally earning her keep! Fun and inexpensive way to dip my toe in the tube rolling world. I spent 2 years on the stock tube and finally decided to try something...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I'm thinking of upgrading to an asgard with dac card myself from a vali 2, so my thoughts for your situation gravitate that way. I just think the new asgard is a helluva bargain, can be a one-box solution, no tubes, and would scale well when you decide to upgrade the 'phones as it could drive...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I know I have a weird and limited use-case, but I go back and forth on my Vali 2 with HE400i (Modi 2U as dac). Some tracks I perceive a clearer image and separation of instruments in low gain; some tracks have more presence and impact in high gain. With vinyl through my old yamaha receiver as...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

Agreed. This isn't the first and won't be the last deck that needed a nudge to start up. Heck, I give my rega a nudge because I feel like letting the belt slip and stretch at every startup just decreases it's life. Same with my project rpm1. Wouldn't be a deal breaker for me

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I personally don't see what all the fuss is about. I'm new to vinyl and have a plinthless deck with a fully adjustable arm (although not unipivot) and floating motor pod that is in the budget category and it wasn't that big of a deal to set up. I went with this model over the others...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I'm hoping for an Asgard upgrade with cards like jot. The way he's been talking, I'll bet a future Asgard won't be fully class A anymore, but I'd be interested in a product like that in that price range. Less expensive than a jotunheim, single ended only.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I first got into schiit while exploring vinyl playback. I started seeing reviews of the Mani and started poking around the site. Tried a Mani and loved it in my budget/2nd hand system. Then picked up a modi to try with my CD player/phone etc. Another win. It was almost a year after that I...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I should clarify; I run the Modi into the AVR and run the Vali 2 from the tape out and doesnt seem to be affected by the volume control on the AVR. don't know if that information makes any difference with your question. my volume stays at around 11 O'clock when listening to digital. its more...

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I'm running Hifiman HE400i and I use low gain with Modi2U and high gain with my vinyl coming out of an AVR with a cheapy phono pre in it. need to get a second Mani and a sys for the office vinyl/digital setup. I think I only need high gain with vinyl due to the relative crappiness of the phono...

    Official Schiit Vali 2 Thread

I get a very audible pop on my he400i as well. I've had the setup almost a year with no issues. My office is quiet and small, but it's audible when the phones are off my head as well. Always wondered if it was an issue.

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up

I do think that's what he was talking about, just specifically with vocals. He mentioned early stones recordings where the vocals were consistently phrased a little behind the beat, and how he cares for their later recordings with vocals placed squarely on the beat significantly less, and this...
