who is the greatest virtuoso?
Buddy Rich. Come on, people. Perhaps I wasn't reading this thread closely enough, but it seems I might have been the first to mention his name. In fact, I've heard it suggested that Buddy Rich was not only the greatest Jazz drummer to have ever played (somebody else mentioned Max Roach -...- SwedeSound

Headphone Shops In NY?
I was just at B&H - and while they have a HUGE selection, you can't audition any cans. I've also seen the big wall at J&R, but the cans are all plugged into the wall being fed by the same source and it's hard to know where that's coming from. Perhaps they'd let you pop in yr. own CD, I dunno.- SwedeSound

Who is not going to HeadFest? Why?
I live on the East Coast, and, frankly, this is still a relatively new hobby to me. I could justify neither the time nor expense to the better half. However, it looks like it's going to be an amazing confluence of industry reps., headphoners and - perhaps - media types. As a freelance...- SwedeSound

Get me over the hump: Senn HD650s or Beyer DT-880s?!?!
That's what I figured would happen if I also got the 650s. I mean, these are the top cans in each product line. I suppose you could develop a preference for one over the other, but it seems unlikely you could deride either as sounding "bad." I had a great listening session last night and am...- SwedeSound

Get me over the hump: Senn HD650s or Beyer DT-880s?!?!
Yeah, G.D., I have to agree with you... I'm noticing things I haven't heard in many song before, but shuddering at anything less than 340kbps in my iPod - and even those aren't as pleasing as the lossless files. But AIFF and Apple Lossless tracks are just a joy to listen to.- SwedeSound

Get me over the hump: Senn HD650s or Beyer DT-880s?!?!
Hey, all... Mine arrived on Tuesday. I had houseguests immediately afterwards, so I haven't had the time to really explore their sound. My initial impressions were that they were crystal-clear but a tad lacking in the low-end initially... BUT after even 24 hours of burn-in, there was a...- SwedeSound

Impedence Question
Why not email the fine folks at Headroom? Seems they're always happy to help - and would have the definitive word considering they designed the amp and sell the 650.- SwedeSound

cheapest place for HD650's...
Try B&H photo/video. I recall they had a decent price on the 650s. Amazon went through the roof recently and I can't figure why.- SwedeSound

You don't want an iPod?!?! What're you, a Communist?!?! Just kidding.... but it's true that for line-out options, it's tough to beat a machine with 70 percent of the market share.- SwedeSound

Get me over the hump: Senn HD650s or Beyer DT-880s?!?!
According to the web site, it's the 2005 version, so we're cool. I'll check out TTVJ for future reference, tho. Thanks.- SwedeSound

Get me over the hump: Senn HD650s or Beyer DT-880s?!?!
Ok, peeps. So, one can only deliberate on such a decision for so long. As tempted as I was by the 650s, I ultimately chose the DT-880s. I played around with the "manufacture" portion of their web site, but they would have been a bit out of budget with all the options I wanted. I did find them...- SwedeSound

Get me over the hump: Senn HD650s or Beyer DT-880s?!?!
Man, after all the great responses, it still feels like a coin toss to me. I am going to do my best to audition the 880s. I've heard the 650s and was very impressed. I still adore my 595s and the "Senn Sound" they provide, which makes me wonder whether I should go with the Beyers if only to have...- SwedeSound

Get me over the hump: Senn HD650s or Beyer DT-880s?!?!
Your leather notch mod link made me think DT880s are the leading contender. Dang. I went to the manufacture spot on the Beyer site, and it's incredible. I "built" a really sweet set, but it would be $385 or so U.S.D. How long did it take for yours to arrive?- SwedeSound

Get me over the hump: Senn HD650s or Beyer DT-880s?!?!
HA! Not necessarily. Lots of people were advocating for the 650s on the earlier thread. I don't think I'd have buyer's remorse with either of them. I'm just trying to make the decision based on "regret management." Which would I least regret getting or not getting. That approach has served me...- SwedeSound

portable speakers for the ipod
I have the mm50s, and I've never regretted it. And I've had a lot of people comment on the size of the sound that comes out of something so small. Hard to beat considering the nice rechargable battery pack, line in and remote options. It's a great little set, and you got a helluva deal. I've...- SwedeSound

Get me over the hump: Senn HD650s or Beyer DT-880s?!?!
I do enjoy the 595s with most of genres I listen to. They can get a little muddy in the lowest octaves, but they're gorgeous with mids (piano and female voices) and some strings. I just want something that will give me a nice, wide soundstage and that doesn't get in the way of the music. I think...- SwedeSound

Get me over the hump: Senn HD650s or Beyer DT-880s?!?!
OK, so in another earlier thread I asked for help in spending my $350 in Blackjack winnings from Atlantic City. The debate was over new, hi-end cans or a new, higher-capacity iPod. I've since decided on new headphones, but I have it narrowed down to two worthy competitors: Sennheiser HD650s...- SwedeSound

Ideas for a teen summer job
Dude, you live in Maryland. Work outside. A marina. A golf course. Don't spend it in some music store or a pizza joint. Besides, you'll make money and maybe get a tan at the same time. Landscaping crews can make decent bread, too. And the physical labor might help you get in decent shape, too...- SwedeSound
