The LCD is one of the least open totl headphones. HD seems down your ally if you are after detail and openess especially coming from speakers. Not sure how you will go with hps though with severe hearing problems.

Soundmagic HP100? Great all rounder, neutral, smooth and very versatile. Consider it, won't find that many here knowing of it existing though. I've had most of the portable headphones down at that price point and prefered these as a true all rounder.

A track that I previously used to test the Mad Dog for bass and spatial sound was       I'd definitely use it for the Alpha dog as well. The TH900 is the king of the hill for me with bassy music though, I'm a bit of a basshead in those genres.
