The AKG K7XX Massdrop First Edition Thread
The cable connector looks like a 3-pin mini XLR. Is it possible to swap the cable for a balanced 4-pin cable or does that require changing the connector on the headphone? Edit: nvm found answer here: http://www.head-fi.org/t/483861/guide-balanced-akg-k702-with-detachable-4-pin-mini-xlr-cable- supermoo

Mac OS X Music Players - alternatives to iTunes
I've been using both Audirvana + 2.0.2 (Integer mode 2) and Decibel 1.3.1 (exclusive access/hog mode) and they both sound equally good to me (read: no difference). I found integer mode 1 on Audirvana to be a bit flat/reference (I would say cold) whereas integer mode 2 has a warmer tone. Decibel...- supermoo

Is there USB-powered amp+dac that is also powerful (some extra points inside)
Have you looked at the ALO Audio Island? I wrote an impressions review here: http://www.head-fi.org/t/682214/alo-the-island-usb-dac/15#post_10981668 It seems to fit with your needs and, from what I've read in reviews, matches well with the LCD-X/Cs. I've auditioned HD800s on the Island and...- supermoo

ALO The Island USB DAC!
Showing some love for this little DAC/amp combo. I just got a silver Island to replace an aging E-MU 0202 USB (which has a CS4392 DAC that I like the sound of) and I am quite happy with it. After looking at a range of portable DAC/amps ranging from the O2+ODAC, Geek Out 450, Hifi-M8, and...- supermoo

Giant List of sub-$200 portable DACs w/ their chips & price
Great thread. It'd be interesting to see some good recommendations for $200-$300 portable DACs & DAC/Amps as well. I would probably add the O2+ODac (ES9023) and ALO Audio Island (CS4398) to that category.- supermoo

Need non-leaking cans comparable to HD595
The main reason I went with the D2000 is because I wanted something that was as close to the HD595s as I could get but being closed, also circumaural, with improved bass, and just as comfortable. The D2000s have matched my expectations of each of the aforementioned criteria.- supermoo

Cosmetic upgrade on the DENON D2000?
Does Denon sell replacement earcups? I assume you can simply swap out the D2000 earcups with a pair of the D5000 ear cups.- supermoo

My ears suck
If I understand correctly: You have 1 original mp3 file which you then used to do the following: mp3 -> wav then mp3 -> lp2 -> wav So now you have two wavs, both of which came from the same mp3 and with one being further degraded by transcoding to lp2 and you can't hear a big...- supermoo

Looking for some new gaming headphones
I think you should settle with either a new pair of HD555s or a used set of HD595 (which costs about the same). They're both extremely comfortable and I find the HD595 (which I own and use for playing CS:S) to be great in terms of positioning. Haven't tried the HD555 beforehand so I can't tell...- supermoo

Headphones with excellent positioning
Yes, I set my output settings to 2.0/2.1 for the X-Fi but ALSO have the CMSS3D enabled and in-game 5.1 enabled. It makes for a very convincing soundstage and accurate positioning.- supermoo

Headphones with excellent positioning
Just get the AKGs they should be very good in terms of position. However make sure you feel comfortable with them on (read: TRY THEM!!). The most important part in choosing a headphone for gaming is comfort. If you're going to be doing long gaming sessions you don't want headphones that will...- supermoo

Wow congrats to those who got a pair at $185! Now the resale value of these cans are even lower (which is good for those who aren't in the US). Hopefully people won't turn around and sell these at a profit.- supermoo

So my K81DJ headband snapped..
Hey there, If you don't plan on replacing the headband (which from the sound of this thread doesn't seem possible) do you mind sacrificing one of the sides for the purpose of finding out how to get the shoulder to turn out further? To illustrate what I mean: If you can crack one...- supermoo

AKG k518DJ headband, pads and cable mods
Well adding the padding has fixed the pressure on my head but these are still too tight on the ears! Not to mention the fact that at the highest notch, the shoulders of the headband stick out when worn. It's really unsightly and uncomfortable! I noticed that besides bending the headband, a...- supermoo

AKG k518DJ headband, pads and cable mods
This looks interesting. The big gripe I have with the K81s is that they press on the top of my head even on the longest notch. Did you use super glue to stick the padding to the headband?- supermoo
