Apparently the bassist extraordinare, ex-Fates Warning drummer, and relatively unknown Gordian Knot contributor have a band called At War With Self, with sole release Torn Between Dimensions from 2005. Anything with Manring on it is pretty much guaranteed to be , but has anybody heard this?

The new Neurosis album, Given to the Rising, is apparently... around. Haven't had the opportunity to hear it myself, but most of the pre-release reviews seem very promising, claiming a mixture of Times of Grace and The Eye of Every Storm. Anybody here have a chance to hear it yet?

Not sure how I missed Void, but it would've easily made my top metal albums of 2006. The band includes members of Exhumed, Uphill Battle, Phobia, and Anubis Rising... and they play a sort of metal that brings across the menacing dynamics and atmospherics of bands like The Ocean and Neurosis...

Bill Bruford's Earthworks, Simon Phillips' solo output, Chick Corea's more recent work (namely The Ultimate Adventure, which I absolutely adore), and other things of that nature. I've been really digging this kind of stuff as of late... all recommendations welcome.
