Not sure how I missed Void, but it would've easily made my top metal albums of 2006.
The band includes members of Exhumed, Uphill Battle, Phobia, and Anubis Rising... and they play a sort of metal that brings across the menacing dynamics and atmospherics of bands like The Ocean and Neurosis; the sludgy tones of Mastodon; the angular riffing of Meshuggah; the elegant and organic bass presence of bands like Cynic, Atheist, and Alarum; the ambient textural collages of Kayo Dot; and some instantly notable, complex drumwork that holds it all together (actually was the first thing I fell in love with here).
Vocals can be kind of weak, but that's forgivable.
Definitely check it out if you're into this sort of thing... and add another to the list of progressive metal bands that don't suck.
