I personally didn't like the cmoy port amp.. sound started to distort about halfway. Like yourself I use the SRH840's but i guess its not bad for the price you pay, does the job to an extent. Just don't expect something spectacular.

I would second the SRH 840's especially with your genre of music. The clarity and how it distinguishes each instrument is good. The kickdrum with rock music however could be too neutral sounding but that depends on what your looking for.

I've only heard the M-audio av-40's and i'd say they're quite nice for the price you pay. Don't really need a sub unless u really want to hit those lows. hope that helps
