[EDM] could somebody please identify this track?
It's an EDM track, most likely from somewhere in Asia - Proper identification would be much appreciated. Thanks. -
miRthkon - for fans of Zappa, Panzerballett, Estradasphere, SGM, Thinking Plague, etc.
Basically, if you're a fan of any of the bands in the subject line, you should get this. Even if you only have some vague, passing interest in RIO and/or avant-prog, you should get this anyway. The Zappa influence is probably strongest, but you can also hear Mr. Bungle worship, the quirky... -
Kalisia - for fans of: prog metal that doesn't suck? I don't know.
...disc, it only makes me depressed that bands like Kalisia are fated to forever remain in relative obscurity - because as far as I'm concerned, *this* is where modern prog metal is at. The album seems to only be available on their official site, or directly from Season of Mist. edit... -
Mari Kimura - Polytopia: Music for Violin and Electronics (subharmonic chamber music)

Spaced Out - for fans of: Buckethead, Primus, and similar fusion.
Spaced Out - Eponymus II I'll keep this rather short. This album reminds me a little bit of Colonel Claypool's Bucket of Bernie Brains, only without many of the things which made that a mostly average project. In other words, I view Eponymus II as the album that Les Claypool and Buckethead... -
Cloudkicker - for fans of: Textures, Meshuggah, TesseracT, and perhaps Isis
Cloudkicker is a one-man instrumental project by a certain Ben Sharp from Columbus, Ohio. He has released all of his albums for free @ cloudkicker.uk -. The downloads are available in high quality MP3 and FLAC. Rhythmically, his music reminds me heavily of Nothing and Catch Thirty-Three-era... -
Panzerballett - for fans of metal, jazz, and fusion... or just fusion.
I was pointed in the direction of this band recently. Following is a review of their first album (not written by me) - Quote: "Panzerballett is a heavy jazz-fusion band from Germany who play an exciting brand of instrumental music that is sure to tickle the fancy of prog, metal, and... -
Direwolf - Beyond the Lands of Human Existence (for fans of Behold... the Arctopus, or just bizarre metal in general)
I just stumbled across this completely by accident. It's Behold... the Arctopus guitarist Mike Lerner's solo project. It's mostly guitar-dominated as you'd expect, but it actually reminds me a lot of Ron Jarzombek's solo work, which is a huge complement from my end. The music doesn't focus... -
Squarepusher meets Conlon Nancarrow?
CD Baby: ASTROID POWER-UP!: Google Plex I might have made a thread about this in the past, I don't really remember, and don't really care. I just rediscovered this after a few years and thought I'd share it - again? I also don't really know what to write here to accurately describe the... -
New Cynic album...
BLABBERMOUTH.NET - CYNIC: New Album Title, Release Date Revealed Fifteen years and we're getting 35 minutes of new music? Failures. I'm excited though ;p -
Uh, Blotted Science... (metal)
...John does. In fact - having heard a lot of progressive and technical metal, I can say with reasonable honesty that this is among the best and is what I've always thought modern shred *should* be like. Charlie Zeleny from Behold... the Arctopus on drums; Alex Webster from Cannibal Corpse on... -
What is this track?
I'm not a big fan of trance. Actually, I don't like trance at all... but I heard this song on a compilation the other day and thought it was pretty cool, especially throughout the latter half. So... what is this? -
The Mass
So I just came across this. It's like John Zorn's most abrasive and spastic jazz, Converge's raging fury, Mr. Bungle's genre-hopping eccentricity, Hella's limber spazz rock, the destructive grind of Discordance Axis, and a screaming saxophone all rolled up into a single entity. Bizzare... -
Electrocution 250 (for fans of progressive/technical metal and cartoons)...
Take Liquid Tension Experiment and shove them through a dense cartoon filter... add the tongue-in-cheek playfulness of Bumblefoot, the mind-warping speed of Behold... the Arctopus, and the theoretical supremacy of Spastic Ink, and that's basically Electrocution 250's Electric Cartoon Music From... -
SikTh - fans? detractors?
Ever since I discovered this band - which wasn't too long ago, actually - I've seen their material consistently draw an immense amount of criticism from music fans on all ends of the spectrum. The metalheads think it's an abomination, the 'cores think it's too bizarre, the rockers think it's too... -
Thinking Plague
So, a while ago I saw a genre tag describing uneXpect as "metal-in-opposition". Led by curiosity, I did a small bit of research and ran head first into the rock-in-opposition thing, or RIO. Recently got my first album in this style, Thinking Plague's In Extremis, and I fell in love with it... -
Indukti - S.U.S.A.R. (for fans of Tool, Red/Discipline-era King Crimson, etc)...
Another recent discovery of mine... quite good. Review I wrote for Metal Archives - __ Indukti cite Tool, Neurosis, and King Crimson as primary influences. That bit of information alone should either have you screaming bloody murder or crying tears of bliss... or it might leave you with a... -
Shining - Grindstone (for fans of weird, experimental, and really cool stuff)...
I've been listening to this one for a while now, and it definitely seems like an early candidate for #1 of 2007. Described loosely as a mix of The Mars Volta, The Mahavishnu Orchestra, and Slayer, Shining's Grindstone is a bizarre and abstract melting pot of frantic jazz-rock progressions... -
Marco Minnemann joins Necrophagist, lol...
http://www.necrophagist.com/Seiten/n...gist_main.html Well, this is something I never would have predicted. Should be interesting. -
New Devin Townsend is just around the corner...
For anybody who wasn't aware - Looks fun. -
Michael Manring + Mark Zonder + Glenn Snelwar = Win?
Apparently the bassist extraordinare, ex-Fates Warning drummer, and relatively unknown Gordian Knot contributor have a band called At War With Self, with sole release Torn Between Dimensions from 2005. Anything with Manring on it is pretty much guaranteed to be , but has anybody heard this? -
Anybody heard the new Neurosis?
The new Neurosis album, Given to the Rising, is apparently... around. Haven't had the opportunity to hear it myself, but most of the pre-release reviews seem very promising, claiming a mixture of Times of Grace and The Eye of Every Storm. Anybody here have a chance to hear it yet? -
Intronaut - Void... for the abstract metallers, well worth a look.
Not sure how I missed Void, but it would've easily made my top metal albums of 2006. The band includes members of Exhumed, Uphill Battle, Phobia, and Anubis Rising... and they play a sort of metal that brings across the menacing dynamics and atmospherics of bands like The Ocean and Neurosis... -
So I'm about to get my toenail ripped off...
Well, I'm the victim of an ingrown toenail, and removal is imminent. Can't say I'm looking forward to it... well, I am, but I'm not. Anybody been through this procedure before? Anything particularly negative about it? :O- asmox

Looking for fusion-y stuff along the lines of...
Bill Bruford's Earthworks, Simon Phillips' solo output, Chick Corea's more recent work (namely The Ultimate Adventure, which I absolutely adore), and other things of that nature. I've been really digging this kind of stuff as of late... all recommendations welcome.
