Any trick to avoid ER4-p's microphonics ?
Put the cords over your ears. It doesn't look that bad, and anyway, who cares. You get to enjoy the music while others look. I started doing this a year ago and had forgotten that Etys had any microphonics at all. It is something I never think about until somebody writes a thread on it...- dshea_32665

World class sound out of HD650
Would a PPX3 balanced sound better than a normal MPX3? I know one could only speculate, but I am hoping to buy a Singlepower sometime in the Fall when I get funds together. My Zu is already balanced. dshea- dshea_32665

AE-1 impressions
EdipisRex, Great review man! Being the first one to respond Ken about SR-71 depression, this thread like so many, took a weird twist which ended up mildly undercutting your observations by some. I am impressed that you didn't get angry about that and in a classy way defended your...- dshea_32665

USB DAC or soundcard for laptop
I own an Apogee Mini DAC and am running it from a computer. It sounds amazing. Mine isn't the USB version, but I am running it through a Waveterminal U24 sound card (~$175). This is a highly regarded USB sound card and it is pretty small. When I travel, I run my SR-71 amp from its analogue out...- dshea_32665

Openess HD650
I really think the Zu Mobius cable adds detail and openness to the sound. Source can also affect the sense of openness as well. You might try and go to cables forum and do a search on "HD650 replacement cable". There have a been a great number of excellent threads on this topic and I think...- dshea_32665

Singlepower amps, now I call that room service!!!
I had the good fortune of spending last week in Boulder, CO. I knew Mikhail lived in the area and asked if I could stop by his shop and sample some of his amps. He was having a crazy busy week, but it turned out my hotel was very close to his metal shop. So, he was so incredibly gracious to...- dshea_32665

How do you like your Apogee Mini-DAC?
I have had mine for about four months and it sounds pretty spectacular. When you get it, you are going to feel as if you have arrived and become a firm believer of Team Source first. One the great things about this unit, as jpelg stated, is you can listen to the headphone out and be blown...- dshea_32665

Enjoying my ER4P w/ Shure tri-flanges & flat EQ on Rio Karma
Try the shure yellow foamies with the Etys, or mod the Ety foamies (cut 1/3 the length or do a search on Tyson and modded foamies for a detailed thread). It sounds amazing!! dshea- dshea_32665

Abandoned balanced XLR, back to my SR-71
In April I purchased an Apogee Mini DAC and before it arrived I sent my Mobius to have XLR connectors put on them. While I was waiting for my cable I listened with my stock cable with the Mini DAC and tested my SR-71 versus the headphone jack. I even started a thread "Have I outgrown my SR-71"...- dshea_32665

SR-71 first impressions
Congratulations on your great purchase. As a fellow classical music listener, this amp really does the job bringing out the details, textures and nuances of acoustic instruments and voice. I remember the first time listening to mine and I was stunned. We all can recall the joy you are...- dshea_32665

Ft. Worth, July 23, a Mini that might morph to a Maxi?
Inkmo, I feel your pain. I get back to town a few days after the meet. However, next time I get to the metroplex, I am going to see if I can rally some forces for at least a mini-meet. There are enough of us, so I think we need to have meets more regularly now that we have woken up from our...- dshea_32665

Left and Right Channel switch randomly
I have noticed with my USB connection to my source, that occasionally the left and right channels will switch. If I pull the USB plug out and quickly put it back in they return to their proper orientation. It doesnt' happen that often, maybe 1 out of 20 or 25 tracks. Any...- dshea_32665

My IEM Review (Shure E4/E5, UE Super.Fi 5 Pro/EB, Etymotic ER4s)
Jasper, I own Ety 4s and am not a fanatic and would be willing to switch to something if it is better. Could I ask you this if you still have them, did you use foamies or the tri-flange? I ask this because your reaction to switching to foamies on the E4 is the same experience I had when going...- dshea_32665

SR-71, XP-7 Comparisons and Differences.
The amps are almost identical soundwise. The SR-71 is smaller and more conducive to being used on the go, which seems to be your intention. The SR-71 does not have the AC power option, but the batteries last a long time. Go with the SR-71. dshea- dshea_32665

GS-1 Synergy with Sennheiser HD650's?
I know you probably know this, but give the cable at least 100 hours if not 200 burn in. My first Zu I got with my new HD650s, so I thought the burn in was primarily the headphones. I recently had balanced XLR plugs put on my Mobius, but Sean ended up just sending a new cable with the XLR plugs...- dshea_32665

Covenant, sorry for my brief OT, but you should do a review of the Wavelength Cosecant USB DAC on the Dedicated Sources Forum.
