Most overrated headphones?
I absolutely disdain with a mighty passion the beyerdynamic dt770. I remember heavily considering it as my first purchase when getting into headphones, glad I didn't blind purchase.- Gnomeplay

Grado Fan Club!
I've owned the RS1, PS500, and GH2. A general impression of each of them in relation to eachother: RS1 is the most mid - treble forward of the three, the brightest, the most energy. Most perceived detail, but also can be fatiguing. GH2 is the most neutral, great all rounder. Great...- Gnomeplay

I've been down that road too. Except I accidentally ended up with my first Grado, the RS1i. After owning and selling several planars/dynamics, the RS1 was the only headphone that I really regretted parting with. I now have a GH2 to replace it, and I don't think I'll make that mistake twice. I'll...- Gnomeplay

The Hardest hitting Headphones are.. ( "The EXTREME BASS Club")
The only other option you really have is ZMF, and that's probably considered a sidegrade by a lot of people. They are certainly reviewing favorably, but the th900 has that long standing success. Maybe a Sony Z1R would also bring something different to the table.- Gnomeplay

They're on the same gimbal system with the same ergonomics all of the way up. The only time I've had that issue is when I was using the Earzonk pads for a little bit because they're thicker in the area that it attaches to the cup.- Gnomeplay

I personally prefer the G-Cush all of the way around on the GH2. Once in a while I'll put the L-Cush on to mix it up but quickly find myself switching back. The staging and imaging with them are just too good.- Gnomeplay

Grado Fan Club!
That's because I'm an idiot and mistyped on my phone, the authentic ones are much better. Sorry for the buzzkill! Basically it boils down to this, the authentic version is made of two different types of foam, a softer foam toward the center near the driver, and the authentic version brings your...- Gnomeplay

Grado Fan Club!
I prefer the G-Cush pads on every Grado headphone so far except the PS500 unfortunately. The PS500 are naturally less forward than the rest of them, and from my experience the G-Cush pushes this a little too far and makes the music sounds unnaturally recessed. I'd still recommend you own a pair...- Gnomeplay

Can't decide between the Grado RS2e and PS500e
I will agree that matter of preference is paramount here, however I cannot get behind the PS500 sounding more detailed than the RS1. The lack of treble in the PS500 compared to the accented treble in the RS1 makes me feel like the RS1 barrages you with detail in comparison.- Gnomeplay

Can't decide between the Grado RS2e and PS500e
I've never heard the RS2e, but have owned or extensively demoed the RS1i, GH2, PS500, and SR325e. I can confidently say that the PS500 is my least favorite of the lot. They lose a lot of the forwardness in the mids and treble that make the rest of the grado lineup enjoyable to me. They're the...- Gnomeplay

I'm glad that you like them. I recently picked up a pair of SR325e for my girlfriend for Christmas and I've found that they don't perform much lower than the RS1, PS500, or GH2, seems more like a difference in tonality rather than quality. How do you like them through the Valhalla?- Gnomeplay

Calling All "Vintage" Integrated/Receiver Owners
Would certainly be interested to see what you have to say in comparing them. I'm still trying to figure out which brand suits my tastes for receivers. My serious interest right now is in a high end Sansui or a Fisher tube receiver. I've tried most of the more common brands at a mid ranged price.- Gnomeplay

Calling All "Vintage" Integrated/Receiver Owners
It really is the best kept secret around here. I actually just bought a silver face Marantz today off of craigslist for $20. The guy claimed that the left channel didn't work, turns out all it took was 15 minutes and an air compressor to return it to near mint condition. Was a great pick up as...- Gnomeplay

Calling All "Vintage" Integrated/Receiver Owners
I wouldn't worry about that, I've speaker tapped a pair of LCD2s to a whole variety of different vintage amps from 65 to 150wpc with no issues. Just make sure your volume control is turned all of the way down. Also turn that "loudness" switch to the off position on the front of your receiver...- Gnomeplay

Best Headphone for low level listening ?
I'm not a very low volume listener, but I've found Grado headphones, particularly the RS1i to be quite enjoyable at low volume. On a side note, I really don't like any of the orthodynamic headphones I've tried at low volumes. They really require some volume to become enjoyable for me...- Gnomeplay

Audeze LCD-2 Impressions Thread
The overly dark and thick nature of the LCD2 is what makes me want to keep them around in a way though. They're not perfect in every situation, but it's a presentation that I feel like I would miss if I parted with them. They're just so relaxing and seductive.- Gnomeplay

My First Grado - RS1i - Help me decide if I should keep it...
Glad to see that you're enjoying the variety. That's probably the thing I like about them most is the adjustable versatility. Just buy them used, I see them pop up fairly often on the FS/FT page for around $1100 - $1200. There will pretty much always be a successor to any headphone...- Gnomeplay

My First Grado - RS1i - Help me decide if I should keep it...
A real shame too. Considering they already have a pretty good following and a nice place in the high end headphone niche, they could be much more of a powerhouse if they would dump a little bit more build quality into their products. That's basically the only thing that keeps me from shooting...- Gnomeplay
