Is there anyone who's gone back to solid state after trying tubes?
I currently have the supposed dream combo Earmax Pro and CD3000, and the sound is warm and mellow but I always end up falling asleep, no matter what music I listen to :-/ I'll probably sell the EMP and go SS in the near future. I'll post an ad in the For Sale forum soon but if anyone is...- dMoog

cd3000 + xp-7 = No-No?
I've been discussing this quite a bit with user Adamzuf. Adam tried this rig with his upgraded DI/O and thought it sounded bad. However, I'm under the impression that the cd3000 + a good solid-state amp (xp-7, or why not the Corda HA-1 mkII?) would be a pretty nice setup for most kinds of music...- dMoog

Expanding on this best of kick how about 2003 best music DVD
I would say "Daft Punk & Leiji Matsumoto - Interstella 5555". This animated musical based on Daft Punk's album "Discovery" totally blew my socks off. Also, the Limited Edition DVD is extremely well made. A very recommended buy. -
Please help a t00b-n00b - or, tube amp Dos and Don'ts
Thanks for all the answers! I just remembered another thing; should I turn the amp off when changing ICs? Should I turn it off when plugging headphones in and out?- dMoog

Please help a t00b-n00b - or, tube amp Dos and Don'ts
A couple of days ago I received my first tube amp, an Earmax Pro, bought from Adamzuf. He told me that I could have the amp turned on all the time, but I can't help but wonder if the tubes become damaged or "used up" in some way when the amp just sits there without a load to drive. So...- dMoog

what kind of lossless format are you using? And why?
I use FLAC because it's lossless and completely open source. Also, encoding/decoding time is very fast.- dMoog

Marantz CD6000 KI? Or rather not...?
Marantz CD6000 OSE/LE is not that cheap in Sweden. It costs $700 or 600 euros new. I just want to know if this is a really good deal or if I should let it pass and look for something else.- dMoog

Marantz CD6000 KI? Or rather not...?
Hi, I need advice on a purchase. I have been looking to buy my first real good CDP, and now I've found what I think is a good deal on the above mentioned player. The price is about $570 + shipping, it's used but in mint condition and it has warranty left on it. The other equipment to be used...- dMoog

As far as I know your system would benefit rather nicely from upgrading the amp... I don't know about cables though, depends on what you have right now.- dMoog

NEW NAD C521BEE CDP
Breaking news? No. It's been available in Sweden since sometime this summer as far as I know. It costs about $320 here which may sound a lot but it really isn't because the Swedish Krona has been gaining more on the US Dollar lately...- dMoog

Maybe it's just the onboard DAC that sucks. The PS2 does have an optical out... How about trying an external DAC?- dMoog

A couple of years ago I did the same thing but the other way around; using a microphone as a speaker. The sound was crap and the volume was really low, but it worked!- dMoog

Beyer DT531 vs Grado SR60
For Christ's sake, if you're going to buy Grados, import them from USA! That's what I did (I live in Sweden too) and I saved a bunch by doing that (SR-60 are like $70 new there). I don't know about the Beyers (you're buying them from Ljudmakarn, right?) but Grados are not what I would call...- dMoog

HD600 or Grado SR80 for PC use?
Quote: Originally posted by noiseunit and i wholeheartedly agree with Moog on the gaming aspect of the SR80. i just use my mx500 for that... ...and I use my PortaPro's. They actually have really good positioning. Haven't tried the mx500's though.- dMoog

HD600 or Grado SR80 for PC use?
I don't know about the HD600s but I've been using my SR-80s out of my M-Audio Revolution for a while now and I can say it owns for music. As for gaming the SR-80s are really not that good. The aggressive sound is rather nice but the fact that the positioning is rather bad and that it lacks...- dMoog
