Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro Review
I find your take on the DT770 interesting. I too have some high frequency hearing loss as well as mild tinnitus which started about 8 months ago. The COPs are, IMO, the best headphone value for the buck, and I use them to this day, especially plugged into my AVR when watching movies at night...- DanDorn

V-MODA M-200: Official Impressions & Reviews Thread
Until the day, if it ever comes, when V-Moda releases a model with sizable ear cups (beyond the XLs, they don't cut it), they'll remain out of my consideration. Too bad.- DanDorn

Astell&Kern KANN CUBE
The hardest-to-drive cans I own are the Modhouse Audio MK3 and Fostex T60RP. The Cube drives these with ease at middle gain.- DanDorn

Denon AH-7200
I owned the 7000 for many years and to my taste the 7200s are superior headphones. Sure, the 7000s were legendary, but I always felt their mids were recessed—in a similar way to the Fostex XX lines (Ebony, Purple Heart, etc.). Not sure where the notion came from that the 7200 sound dark; they’re...- DanDorn

Denon AH-7200
The D7200 have settled into being my all-time favorite closed cans alongside my MrSpeakers AFC and Campfire Audio Cascade (those 2 matched with different sources particular to their needs). The Denons sound amazing with the Astell & Kern Kann Cube, and they're the best cans ever when connected...- DanDorn

BW P9 vs Denon AH-D7200
Late addition to this thread. I've owned the AH-D7200's for some time and recently got the Astell & Kern Kann Cube. Let me tell you, the pairing of these two is a marriage made in heaven. the Cube brings out the greatness in these cans.- DanDorn

Astell&Kern KANN CUBE
AK70 (1st Gen) is my favorite DAP after the in-a-class-by-itself Kann Cube, but I've always used it as a music transport matched with either the Cypher Labs Theorem 720 or Centrance Hifi M8. I agree with your assessment of the Cube, it's amazing.- DanDorn

Nice case; shoulda waited to get it, but the pseudo-swanky AK Oliva I case I just received is pretty nice.- DanDorn

Treble head? Not particularly. I don't remember the tracks I listened to but I know I listened through a portable rig I brought with me, probably Cypher Labs Theorem 720 w/AK70 mini-Silver Dragon USB mini-cable.- DanDorn

I tried the Andromeda IEMs at CanJam NYC 2018 and loved the sound. Bet they're a great match with Cube; unfortunately I found them too uncomfortable. Maybe my ear canals aren't suited to IEMs... is there a trick to getting them to fit right? What am I doing wrong??- DanDorn

Astell&Kern KANN CUBE
My experience so far is both my Aeon Flow Closed and Hifiman HE4XX sound great with the Cube; on the other hand, the Campfire Audio Cascade sound too dark with the leather pads but not bad with the cloth. I've yet to give my Denon AHD7200 a run with it because I packed it for a move, but I...- DanDorn

Ditto. I've been storing it in a Ruggard neoprene case (have several of different sizes), but this DAP has sharp corners so I'm glad the case is on its way.- DanDorn

Hi fellow Cube owners, I wonder if you can give me a snapshot of your preferred gain levels for the Cube in relation to specific cans, balanced vs unbalanced, etc. Many thanks!- DanDorn

Astell&Kern KANN CUBE
I've had my Kann Cube now for a few days and I love its sound, but what strikes me more than anything is how powerful this thing is in driving finicky headphones; case in point: my MrSpeakers Aeon Flow Closed. Don't let anyone tell you these cans are easy to drive; without enough power they...- DanDorn

Astell&Kern KANN CUBE
I had an AK120II for some time, and although I liked it a lot, I found its sound a much less musical experience overall to me than that of the original Kann. I've recently ordered the Cube and can't yet attest to what it can do, though I have high hopes. In my experience, and as many in these...- DanDorn

Astell&Kern KANN CUBE
I bought the Kann Cube this past weekend and I've yet to receive it (want it so bad I can tase it), and I've always liked the original Kann sound signature. The Hugo 2 is another story, and quite problematic for me in terms of sound signature because it made headphones sound bright that I didn't...- DanDorn

Well, I ordered the Kann (with case purchased separately) from Moon Audio. Having always admired the original Kann's sound signature and overall... chutzpah, I made the decision to sell my Kann and go for the Cube. I feel confident that I won't be disappointed (as I was with the SP1000).- DanDorn

Astell&Kern KANN CUBE
Hi. I'm interested to learn more about the Cube's sound signature. You say it adds no coloration to the sound, which is a departure from the original Kann (which I own). I like the idea of having more power than the Kann, but I wouldn't be interested if the sound signature is closer to, say, the...- DanDorn

Questyle QP2R
Yes, used almost exclusively balanced mode and high bias. Basically I found it lacking in musicality vs the QP1R, and I understand that my assessment is subjective. Bear in mind that I'm not nor have even been an IEM user, so I can't speak to the QP2R's merits in that category. Also, I was...- DanDorn

Questyle QP2R
I've never owned the WM1A, or any recent Sony DAP for that matter, but I suspect you're right right on the money about the "effortless flow" mention. Having owned both the QP1R and the QP2R (sold the former, bought the latter, then sold the latter). I thought the QP1R had more of what you aptly...- DanDorn

Questyle QP2R
As a former owner of the QP1R, current owner of the QP2R which I'm about to sell, and re-buyer of the AK Kann (yes, owned it, sold it, and purchased one again when I came to my senses), I personally feel the Kann is superior in musicality, functionality, and power. Though I would agree with...- DanDorn

Questyle QP2R
I've been wanting to chime in on the matter of the QP2R and, per one Head-Fier's post, pairing it with the Campfire Audio Cascades. I own both. First on the DAP... the QP2R is a wonderful sounding DAP but admittedly its functionality is poor. One has to consider that, even though it has balanced...- DanDorn
