Are A900s really supposed to be this NOISY?
I've had my A900s for almost two years. About a year ago I started noticing that they would make loud creeks and groans whenever I moved my head even slightly. I soon realized that the grey plastic rims on each earcup were rubbing agains the underside of the semi-circular arms that attach them...- sporky

recording from external sources with an Audiophile USB?
I'd like to try recording some videogame soundtracks directly from the games themsleves, and then later on compress them into MP3s. Right now all I have at my disposal are a Dreamcast and an Audiophile USB. So far I've connected the stero RCA plugs from the Dreamcast directly to the back of the...- sporky

What's going on with my setup?
I've been using an audiophile USB with Cambridge Soundworks DTTD 5.1 speakers and A900s. Its worked without a problem until recently when I switched from winamp to foobar. I always have the A900s plugged into the card's headphone out, and the receiver/speakers connected through the S/PDIF out...- sporky

iRiver H140 or H340?
The difference in price between these two players is only about $20. From what I've read, the H140 has the advantage of lossless codec support, and comes with wired remote. Are there any other reasons why I should get the H140 over the H340? The stock headphones don't matter to me since I'll be...- sporky

A900s earcup grinding problem...
I've had my A900s since last december. A few days ago I noticed that tops of the rims of the earcups (gray plastic between the aluminum and the pleather) are scraping against the semi-circle arms which attach them to the headband structure. This wouldn't be a big deal, but it makes a very...- sporky

Used Entech 205.2: is it worth it?
I'm currently using an Audiophile USB with A900 headphones and some Cambridge Soundworks 5.1 speakers. I have my eyes on a used Entech 205.2 DAC for $170, but don't have any knowledge or experience with external DACs. Is this a worthwhile upgrade for my sound card, or should I keep searching...- sporky

Improving an Audiophile USB
I've had my Audiophile USB for about 4 days, and am already itching to upgrade it a little. While I'm not going to sell it and buy a different sound card, I'd really ilke to see how much performance I can squeeze out of it. Right now I'm just listening to mp3s with foobar/winamp and A900s...- sporky

foobar convolver setup question
Yes, I have another n00b question for you: I've heard good things about the " LP 12kHz 36dB" impulse file, so I downloaded it. There seem to be three different files in the zip called "ManleyLP12k" with different file extentions. Which should I use, the .WAV, .HO, or .HDP? The impulse...- sporky

Looking for winamp asio/kernel streaming plugins
I can't seem to find these for winamp v2.xx. I did get a kernel streaming .dll file, but it results in no sound at all on my Audiophile USB. I'd use foobar, but there's a DSP plugin for winamp called Enhancer that I really like. thanks.- sporky

best foobar settings for Audiophile USB?
I just unwrapped my brand spankin' new Audiophile USB, and am loving it so far. I'm still using winamp though, since I can't seem to find a foobar setup that works well. What do other Audiophile USB users here do?- sporky

a bit concerned about hearing damage...
I was listening to my headphones (closed A900s) for a very extended period of time a couple days ago (like, several hours while at the computer). The volume wasn't that much different that what I usually listen to, but when I retired for that night I noticed that my hearing was sort of muffled...- sporky

What is the best ver. of LAME?
I'm currently using 3.90.2, and it serves me just fine. I've been hearing that 3.90.3 is what most people use. Is it worth upgrading? Thanks- sporky

Can you open up the A900s?
If I tilt my head when wearing them it sounds like something might have come loose in the right ear cup. I've never dropped them or anything, so I don't know what the problem could be. Is there a way to safely remove the pads and take a look inside? The sound quality dosen't seem to be effected...- sporky

Audiophile USB: worth the money?
I'm looking for a new soundcard. I usually use headphones (ATH-A900), but also have a set of 5.1 surround speakers. I listen to mp3s encoded using EAC and lame at --alt-preset standard. I had my eyes on the delta410 until I realised that it didn't have a headphone out. Is the Audiophile USB...- sporky

EAC/Lame questions
I'm using EAC with lame v.3.90.3 right now. If I have "--alt-preset standard" entered in the command line, is the bit rate that I select on the drop-down menu below it irrelevent? Also, is it better to use lame v.3.90.2? Thanks- sporky

Is upgrading my sound card really worth the money?
I'm looking into upgrading my current sound card (a turtle beach santa cruz). I currently have my eyes on the M-Audio Audiophile USB, mainly due to some of the comments I've read on this board. My problem is that the $200 price tag may be a bit of a stretch for me, since I'm also planning on...- sporky

ATH A500 or A900?
Okay, I think I've pretty much narrowed my search for new closed cans (to replace my HD 280) to something in the Audio Technica "A" series. In particular I'm considering either the A500 or A900 (since nobody seems to know what the A700 sounds like). I'll be using them in a college environment...- sporky

ATH - A500 (closed) vs. D66 Eggo, please help me decide
Hi, I posted a little while ago about finding a more comfortable/lighter replacement for my HD 280's. Thanks to the very helpful replies that I got, I've decided to get either the ATH A500 or the D66 Eggo. For those of you who didn’t see my last topic, I'm a college student looking for an...- sporky

looking for a more comfortable/lighter alternative to the HD 280's
A few months ago I started shopping around for a set of headphones to use at college. My criteria for choosing one was: 1. High comfort (I'll be doing homework with them on) 2. Great sound (obviously an important factor) 3. Reasonably affordable (I'm a college student after all) 4...- sporky

questions about putting Beyer velour pads on HD 280's
I picked up a pair of HD 280 PRO's a little while ago. So far I'm loving them. I dont know exactly why some people have problems with their sound quality, but they sound great to me. My only complaint is that the standard ear pads can be rather uncomfortable for me (they become sticky after a...- sporky
