I'm using EAC with lame v.3.90.3 right now. If I have "--alt-preset standard" entered in the command line, is the bit rate that I select on the drop-down menu below it irrelevent? Also, is it better to use lame v.3.90.2?

Thanks

Yes, EAC (.95pb3, at least; that's what I have) should ignore the bitrate. It's used for if you don't offer it a command line option, methinks.

And no, the 3.90.x series is a specially tuned one designed by members of Hydrogenaudio. 3.90.3 is the newest, and they claim it sounds better than 3.90.2 I use 3.90.3 when I do any MP3 encoding.

Thanks. Now I should start working on that stack of CD's sitting next to me.

Really? Are there any links you could point me to? I'm always interested in reading about stuff like this. Plus, don't want to be encoding into a worse sounding version

Also consider using the fast tag ("--alt-preset fast standard") if time is important and the possibility of a "potential slight quality loss" isn't.

As far as I can tell, the only thing that the drop-down menu is used for is to write to the log file that EAC creates.
