The worst headphones I can think of are the black supraaural headphones you have to pay for in some American flights. The red and blue buds that are given for free in Airfrance flights are no better imho.

This is coming from a guy who thinks that the best dynamic headphone under $1000 is the SA5000..

We'll see.

dont get me wrong its all about opinion here and there are some old timers that love the 501's...I personally just shake my head.

What amp were you using with the 501?

For me the worst was the Sony MDR-V600s, purchased years ago for well over their current price. Spent too much on them to throw away but couldn't take listening to them so I put them in their nice bag and listened to Sony MDR-G52s (streetstyle) instead. Heck, I even preferred Apple's Stock earbuds to it, at least they were easily portable and free.

In the V600s defense they did block a lot of sound, they just replaced it with something that was usually worse than what they were blocking.

Sony V200s (though I haven't heard V100s or V150s). Sold a pair of V6s and was going to included them for free. Buyer said "thats okay". Free headphones rejected! Well I included them in the box anyway.

Runner up is Senn 202s. Just bass... and blurry/muffled at that.

AKG 501s (first page) are actually the best phones I've ever heard for certain albums (that require air, lightness and sparkle).

Senn HD500's. Let's see... +10 dB at 250 hZ and -10 dB at 2 kHz onwards? Yup, sounds about right. I guess somebody got the idea that "midbass" was the most important thing in all of music, and everything else had to be only slightly audible. Were they listening to rap by any chance?

The HD500 is for wannabe kiddies trying to replicate the crappy sound of bass-tube souped-up civics and thinking they're "cool".

But, they were comfy. And not too hard to drive. Guess that's a plus.

Koss Porta Pro/Sporta Pro II's, incredibly bass heavy for little light weight fold up phones, just awful, buuuuuuuuuuick! Their arch nemisis would have to be Senn PX100, incredible sounding little light weight fold up phones.

Same here. I bought some at the dollar tree, and they were the worst sound piece of junk i have ever hear. They were like wispers. I turned them up to full volume, and they were as loud as the ipod stock buds at 1/6 the volume....garbage

Wait, I take that back...the dollar store ones were bad, but not as bad as the ones that came with the fisher price tape recorder....I dont even know if you could call those headphones. I like the green, white, and red colors though.

I would have to say the V700 takes the rotten egg for me. hellishly uncomfortable and equally fart-ish sound qualities. AND its expensive... Even used they go for ~$90.

ergonomically the worst can I have ever tried. The hard earpads crush the cartilage on my ears to the point of searing pain after ~30 minutes of demoing at guitar center. I praise sony for the ergonomics of many of their products... but the V700 is the most un-ergonomic thing in the audio industry.

Why anyone would want these fart cannons when the MDRV6, K240s and HD280 can be found for a fraction of the price.

Triport is equally crappy. Fragile headbands snaps far too easily. $10 OEM junk cans are more durable these polished turds.

Hahaha, Kramer5150, I've got a thread title for you! "Fart Cannons & Polished Turds", noting the highest priced failures in headphones!
