What are the "official" amps for the q701/k702/k701?

When Sennheiser displayed the HD 800, there was either a Lehmann Audio or Violectric amplifier driving the headphones. With the introduction of their new in-house amplifier I believe they use that now (though I have never seen it).

I have never seen an AKG display so what do they use to power the notoriously hard to drive Q701/K702/K701?

sorry for the bump, but I've realised this is the wrong section and I probably won't get any responses

can a mod move this to the amp sections so I get a response from the guys who frequent there, thanks

Well, to be honest, I can't say what AKG use. But, I CAN tell you what I use. I use just a simple FiiO E7 with my Q701's. It does just the trick.

Just do a search for threads on Head-Fi with "Amping the Q701".
Should be a few threads to get you up to speed on what to get.

The best amp for the Q701 is the E5. You really don't need any more power than what the E5 offers. It's like 2.4 Gigawatts or something.
If it had more than one headphone output you could probably drive 10 Q701s.

What would be interesting to know is if there are any amps that make the Q701 sound horrible. I've experienced only one.

The Lyr. It just doesn't have the power to drive the Q701 properly. It's only good for Porta Pros and HD-700s.

My budget fav with the Q701 is the Little Dot I+. Mid-Fi would be the HiFiMAN EF-5. (Can you tell I like low impedance hybrids for these?) I have both amps and the AKGs and can testify to this.

They scale well with higher end amps too and they're gorgeous with my Cary. Overkill? What's that?

Budget fav for sure is the E9 for me. What tubes do you use for your EF5s?

From the CES videos I've seen, they use the SPL phonitor.

But I also saw videos where the only thing around to plug their headphones in was their microphone mixer... AKG is an international compagny, and they probably use different sources from one show to the other.
