also a very happy and satisfied owner of tf10. and i agree: they don't really need an amp to shine, sounds good right off the dap.

but using an amp, hornet in my case, really helps with the sound quality.

Thanks Slwiser, but I still don't get the picture. Them being very transparent to the amp's sound is good in my book, in fact is what I'd expect of such IEMs. My questions were more in the way if they're the kind of revealing phones that make you aware, very aware of a low quality recording, tend to show sibilance and end up being fatiguing unless you listen to very well recorded discs -as professional audio gear uses to be-, or if they are transparent, clear and detailed, but at the same relaxed, non fatiguing and to a certain extent a bit forgiving. Not necessarily warm or colored, but simply enjoyable with whatever you may wish to listen. What concerns me is that they are an ultrarevealing version of the Super.fi 5, which I'm sure I would dislike.
I've been looking at the graphs at Headroom and the 10s don't have the awful peak at 8-10KHz of the 5s, but still have some increase in that area. Moreover the low bass response of the 10s is a bit rolled off compared to the 5's, so I'd expect them to be more balanced, a bit less bassy, but still in the bright side of things.

I don't find them bright at all. Then again I would never consider calling the 5's bright. E4's I would call bright, I actually thought the highs on the SF5's was a bit recessed, which was why I liked the TF's so much, they restored the highs.

For IEM's the TF's rock. I had just about given up on IEM's when I found the TF's. Previous IEM's I gave up on... E4, UM2, SF.5's, SE-210.

That's the one. And the hole really is a bit bigger than it looks in this picture.
Just look for compability with the E2C, and your're safe.

Interesting - how much do they obstruct the end of the barrel, only being silicon rubber I would have thought that any that actually projects beyond the end of the barrel would elastically shrink down in size slightly obscuring the ports at the end of the barrel tip... but if thats not the case I think I'll have to try them out.

The hole is not as big as with the UE silicon sleeves, but they don't obstruct one of the barrels.

i had the two main competitors se530 and tf10 and i can say the tf10 trumps the se530!

briefly, i found se530 equal to the tf10 in a couple of areas, but the tf 10 beat the se530 in every other
(i wrote a review)

the spread of votes for the tf10 and se530 seems fairly balanced

to start with i kept the foamies from the se530s for the tf10, but i still found these removed too much top end, so biflanges it is

and excellent service from jeanette/tarah at UE on warrenty!

wish the ue11 was an option, but in the uk its not!

- you know when I owned Shure's I found using the clear flex tips akin to hammering nails in my ears and, one of the first things I noted here at Head-fi, I wasn't alone because practically nobody liked them. But ears is ears... I'll just have to try out the Black Soft Flex's to see if they work on UE's, only I just tried some old PA758 Gray Soft Flex's and its a bit of struggle but they go on (eventually) and they are really really comfortable even if a bit of a pig to get back off.

No need to worry. After the large soundstage I don't think they sound anything like each other. I do not care for SFP either. I think they sound fun for the first 10 minutes but then I can't handle the bright, splashy and sloppy treble. It hurts my ears.

TFP's are NOT bright. It is a dry and airy treble. Nothing ultra high or siblant about them. In fact the detail is in the upper mids. They are laid back, a little warm and butter smooth in every regard. I find little fault with them.

I have the UE Super 5 Pro's and the UE Triple 10's. I also had the Shure SE530's, but they did not sound natural like the UE's - the sound signature in the SE 530's was "wrong" to my ears, specially the mid and higher frequencies (female voices sounded bad to me).

That being said, being universal fit, I never was able to find anything that fit me because a very narrow inner ear canal (the smallest my audiologist has seen in an adult!). I "fix" the fit problem with a set of custom ear tips from AverySound - now I have the quality I like with perfect fit!

And no, you do not "need" an amp, but the UE Triple 10's sound even better when driven from my high performance mini^3 amp!

I have one "problem" with the TFP and that is that they are by far the most sensetive of all my phones. They pick up and amplify ANY noise in the signal chain that I can't hear with any of my other phones. Other than that they are great and I am at great pains deciding between them and my APureSound recabled ER4's that I really love.

They're still not as bad as the SE530's. My Triple.fi 10's are fine with my iPod touch straight out of the headphone jack. The SE530's on the other hand just hiss like mad...
