I know there are some good people involved with that IEM. With so many factors in disarray given all the worldwide tumult of the last two years I don't think manufacturers should be blamed for all the delays behind some major releases this past year. I wish nothing but the best for Storm-- I hope it's a knockout.

All about IEMs but what are your favourite DAPs?

Favourite DAPs for me this year are AK SP3000 & iBasso DX320 EX. :)

M2. N8ii has held top spot for me all year, even against 7AE. M2 very unexpectedly slid in and stole the show for my ears paired with Jewel.

So I tried Subtonic Storm today.....

and now on the waiting list....... :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy: :joy:

Bye Mentor....... Bye Traillii........

Oh wow, they must be doing something right. What were they paired with and what tracks did you listen to? And how did you manage to find a pair to listen to...?

Are you still using Dream XLS and VE5? Or have you moved on or perhaps expanded? I'm mostly (but never exclusively) fishing for classical music repro ideas here. Tnx...

The VE5 were only on loan. I sadly had to send those back to them, otherwise they would have been my primary IEMs for classical (hence why they top my wish list). VE did offer me the VE7 on loan for my classical music series as well, but I couldn't manage another MoCM review at the time. So the VE7 might be worth checking out, but I have not heard those myself.

I still often gravitate towards the Dream XLS, although the EE Wraith are very impressive too. Sadly I lack the right source for the Wraith (high power, low noise, neutral) otherwise those would have been included in my classical music series already. I had hoped to try out the FiR KR5, but it never happened. And there are of course the Final A8000, which are uniquely suited to classical music.

I am currently reviewing the TGX Ear Serratus, which are surprisingly good with classical for earbuds (at least for my limited experience with earbuds).

Wish I could have kept the classical music series going more consistently, it's been too long since I last wrote one of those.

It's mainly due to their pursuit of perfection and that they want things done right before it goes to public that results in a long delay and endless revisions... Good stuff..

I paired them with my Ifi Gryphon and phone, I listened to :
- The Weeknd - Die For You
- Yerin Baek - Square (2017)
- Aimer - StarRing Child
- TOTO - Africa
- Eagles - Hotel California
- Bon Jovi - Livin' On A Prayer
- Jiwoo - Comme des Garcons
- Gallant - Shotgun
- Colde - A Song Nobody Knows
- JJ Lin - Perfect Love
- Katie - Our Time

I met up with Ken from Subtonic to demo the Storm prototype :D

I must be the only one but no matter how much I tried I couldn't stand them for acoustic music as the lows put too thick a blanket on the mids for my taste. It's a pity they didn't use Atom modules like I had expected. Still think that could have sealed the deal.

FAudio Mezzo LE first impressions:

Generally has a warmer sound signature with a very pleasing tonality. They're not hard drive but they escalate pretty well with power. I think it has a fantastic coherency for a tribrid.

The bass is big with great quality. I think the midrange is a little bit recessed, not much, but still has a great amount of details. The treble is clean and resolving. This set has great dynamics and energy. I'm also impressed with the soundstage, it's wide and offers a good amount of air between instruments.

The good thing is that you can fine-tune the sound signature with switches. I will need more time to discover the best tuning for my library.

Final note for the packaging and excellent craftsmanship. The design is exquisite, excellent build quality and a great cable.

Next survey. I dare starting one.

Which IEM or DAP are you most likely going to purchase before the end of the year?

From my end: Hiby RS8 and Custom Fibae 5
As an early Christmas present, I bought these days the A&K SP3000 and the Aroma Jewel + PWA First Times 😎
