The New HIBY R3 II is here. 4.4MM Jack; Improved Sound and Bluetooth.

I want to add comments on my experience with the R3. I've been listening to it with both a CA Andromeda and the Massdrop Focal Elex using the SE output. I've put in about 1 hour with the Elex and maybe 10hrs with the Andromeda. That's about the total time on the R3 so it may not be fully burned in yet. Both pairs very well. No hiss with the Andromeda. The Elex requires volume to be pushed to 70+. One warning for those who want to use the original Elex cables to connect to the R3, the device is very small and light and the cable needs the 3.5" adapter. The cable connector with adapter is a little large and heavy compared to the DAP. I fear the plug snapping. I'm going to look into an L shaped adapter and maybe a 2.5" balanced cable.

Sound wise, it's pretty good. Very detailed and very good bass thump. The sound stage feels pretty wide. I'm no expert audiophile but it seems the mids are not as prevalent as a dragonfly red or mojo without EQ. Usability wise, I haven't had any problems with it yet. The UI is pretty snappy. No delays between touching a track and play starting. Even DSD plays immediately. Wifi works well. Bluetooth and Hiby link works really well from my iPhone. The only thing I would like to see implemented (if not already) is the ability for the iPhone to send streamed music to the R3. If this feature is already implemented, and someone knows how to make it work, I'd love to hear it.

Battery life on this thing is pretty good. I think the stated time was somewhere between 9-11hrs. I believe it. The device turns off after a long period of inactivity so there is a delay turning it back on. It's a little annoying but the delay is short, and I can live with that.

One last thing, I ordered the extra leather case, but it's really not needed. The free plastic and lcd cover that comes with it are really nice. I'm not sure I'm going to even use the leather case when I get it.

Overall, I'm happy with it. I was looking at getting the A&K Futura, but I may hold off on that for awhile. The main thing it would provide is perhaps more power to my headphones, maybe?

One last thing, a warning. The device remembers the last volume setting. In general, that's a very good thing, but if you're switching between full size headphones and iems, watch out. If you were last listening with the full size cans, you may have the volume way too high. This is something I can learn to keep aware of.

Just a quick warning, I have demoed Andros on balanced and there is hissed, so stay to single ended. Try switching off the volume memory in settings and hopefully that works better for you!

Boy, downconverting the album art was worth the effort. Artwork comes up much quicker when scrolling. However, hope I don't have go through that again. lol Few other problems fixed as well. Funny how an errant apostrophe can screw things up. Will keep hires artwork on external hard drive for nVidia Shield, it gets projected onto 130" screen.

Second downconverting, I tried original and downsampled thru MusicBee and the difference is noticeable :D

Tell me more about the crossfade feature. Without a manual I rely on people who have figured out some of this. Also, in the top drop-down menu, what is that round thing with horizontal lines in it? Equalizer on/off?
If you mean this

Then that's the DLNA symbol (as the picture says). It enables listening for DLNA broadcasts when the R3 is connected to WiFi.

Does the repeated tracks and associated shuffle bug still exist in 1.11?

I am also happy to hear from Joe and looking forward to him addressing the open points you mentioned.
So maaaayyyybe better not shoot the messenger if you want to get the message? :ksc75smile:

@Joe Bloggs : good to have you back!
There were a lot of valid points raised, and the last FW update shows that HiBy has been working on them. Good to see that!
I also appreciate the Kickstarter Email sent out today with the upgrade on the leather case and the email address for feedback and reporting issues.

Is HiBy going to let us know what they are working on? If yes, where will HiBy do that?
I would not even want to have any dates, juts know what has been identified and is being addressed.

I do have some proposals and will report them when I have more time.

F...k!
Mine just arrived at the post office.
Bravo, never participate in crowdfunding, it makes no sense, for $ 20 discount you will be nervous at all $200!
and get the product at the same time when it is available in retail.
And now you can get Cayn N5-2 for 300$, who needs R3 then?

Being relatively new getting back into audio after a 20 year hiatus, the N5ii was my first dap since using iPods and iPhones for over a decade.

Wasn't really happy with it. Much happier with the R3 (though I'm even happier with the R6).

I tried updating the R3. It says:

"Insert TF Pls"
Oh. TF means the micro SD card. Since the R3 doesn't have internal storage it has to cache the update file it is downloading to a micro SD card.

Well this is the changelog for the latest firmware update to 1.11:
1. Now shows TIDAL error messages to users for feedback to HiBy developers;
2. Added option to enter DNS addresses manually;
3. Removed network time sync function to solve time display errors;
4. Certain album art that could not be displayed can now be displayed;
5. Test fix for multiple instances of same song being displayed and disrupting shuffle;
6. Compatibility for long user names and passwords;
7. Miscellaneous bug fixes.

And here's a download link in case OTA doesn't work: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AtuiwfIBRYFEgbk3Y5DojX1IDv3rQQ

As you can see (5) was intended to fix the issue of multiple instances of same song being displayed and disrupting shuffle. I see it isn't working for someone (anyone)? :frowning2:

I learned this lesson with the Bluewave Get. Took 8 months and I saved 20 bucks. And I've heard much worse stories. Yup, not worth it.

YIPPEEE! My new Micro SD card came in today. Decided to splurge and get the latest, greatest: SanDisk 128GB Extreme Pro Micro SD. Just loaded card on PC using the USB adaptor that came with it and WOW, MUCH faster (I will say though, when it was done and I pulled the adaptor out, it was VERY warm, almost hot). Data update on R3 was faster as well. Couldn't really tell if album art came up quicker on R3 with new card. I think so, but, not a huge difference. Was it worth 200 bucks? MMMMmmmmm, nope. lol Not really. I would wait because it's been at this price point for quite some time. I think it is going to drop soon. Anyway, my tuneage is stored in 5 different places now: Micro SD on Note 8 & new one on R3, laptop, external hard drive, and the cloud. My music ain't goin nowhere. lol
