The JVC HA-S500 thread.

I follow this thread closely and I've read all the mods and pad mods, etc. But after trying a few pads and mods (K518, WS55, Velour, HD25) I just kept going back to stock. I'm happy with it the way it is.

I like stock + dampening inside... I decided to pass on cutes old pair, so they're up for grabs. I'll just get o-rings for mine (already have the hm5s)...

I tried the HD25 velours, and went back to stock. When it gets hot this summer I might put the velours back on and try to EQ to compensate, but I don't know if EQ can truly compensate. Nice to have options though!

you can compansate the hd25 velours bass loss in simply taping two of the three vents and for bringing back the treble, stuff the velours with two q-tips cotton sticks in each side.

^ My HM5 modded set of S500s can even hang with my new WS99s that's how amazing they are. Although they offer a different type of bass, they sound just as engaging and satisfying. nuff said.

I would classify the ws99 a natural transition from the s500 as the mids on both share a similar weight or tonality,
While the es10 is a natural transition from the es700 as they share a similar lighter tonality in the mids.
So depending on which sound you like those are your upgrades.
The es700 is the poor man's es10 and yet with my mod it gets closer :)

Also forgot to say that with the ws55 pads these S500s are incredibly satisfying more so than my s400.
I would place these babies at number 4 and that means better sound overall than:
Amperiors
dt1350
M80
Any other on ear with exception of course my es10! (Woops es700 also),
Yes that includes the Esw9 I had as well!

Are the S500's the real deal? Or are they be considered to be FOTM? They're only available from Japan right? If I don't like them they will be hard to return.

FOTM, many months ago.....if you get them you will need a pile of pads, a baie of cotton, a stack of napkins and a box of Q tips, and some kleenex if you don't like them!

With all most 6000 posts about them... I'd say they are probably real and for $60, you'd send them back to Japan? Cost you more in shipping with tracking... Don't like em sell em they would be snatched up in an instant.

And PS... I am not a troll, that was all explained in a few other threads, I had the nickname long before residential internet even existed.

To be completely honest, these can easily rival headphones in the 100-150$ range (stock). And that's just from a few days of listening to them...burning in like crazy, hopefully they'll open up even more.
