The Fiio X5 Thread

i think it is about synergy,

I had an asg 2 before that i used with dx50 and enjoyed too much, whrn i upgraded to x5, i found unbearable sibilance that i couldn't adjust to, and i eventually sold the asg 2.

for me the dx50 was warmer then x5, and the asg 2 treble was a bit bright,
may be try another warm iem, it should work fine,

Its about mix and match, thats my humble opinion.

This guy's got it. The X5 has a bit more treble energy than most of the devices I found. The X5 does love my AKG Q701, ER4S, Grados that don't have the treble spike. However my V-Moda M100's, HD598 and Sony MDR-1R that have a 10khz treble spike exhibit the sibilance from the X5.
Let's not forget that the HD598 does get a higher mid-bass hump and treble lift from a more powerful source.
Synergy :)

The X5 is not rated for the 300 Ohm HD600. It can drive them loud enough, but not to their full potential.

This is of course not why the treble is harsh. But still, it's foolish to buy the X5 and plan to drive full-size cans without an Amp. It's not made for that. It's made for IEMs and low-impedance headphones.

I'm thinking about grabbing a X5 to replace my lg g4 in my portable audio setup. I just ordered a pair of Vibro labs ARIA aswell. Should I make the jump and grab the X5? I really wonder if it'll make that big of a difference.

It's a very nice sounding device, and a great leap over a smartphone.

Can anyone recommend an interconnect digital coaxial cable for using the 1st gen X5 as a transport for Chord Mojo?

You can pay for a proper coaxial cable or just use a regular stereo interconnect. It works. I make no claims that it's optimal but I hear no noise or interference when doing so. There are a lot of people using it this way and with the dx90 to the mojo as well. If you want a cable that conforms to the 75 Ohm coaxial standard then you need to make one yourself or purchase one from Moon Audio, or similar cable maker. At these lengths it really shouldn't matter. Check out a couple of my posts from the Mojo thread.

The thing is this is extremely cheap so nothing to lose.

I never realized a standard 3.5mm interconnect cable would work with coaxial...  interesting.  I have a few that are decent sizes for when I do a X5/C5 combo, so when I finally get myself to break down and pick up the mojo, I'll give it a try.
