USB 2.0 can do up to 480 megabits/s, not megabytes. Due to the protocol overhead, it is less than 60MB/s.

Nevertheless, there is a speed improvement with USB3.0 even with microSDs because that protocol overhead is less noticeable.

Also, I doubt that X5 itself can work at full 480Mbps, which makes even more difference.

Sorry, but no. It is not faster microSD cards are about 30 MB/s and USB 2.0 can do 480 MB/s. The speed doesn´t get better if you upgrade to USB 3.0 with 5GBit/s and you still got the 30 MB/s from the card.

On a side note ... USB protocoll sucks overall. If there is a lot to do, then USB 3.0 is better, because there is more space for more tasks.

I guess you are not talking from experience.

Please anyone can confirm FiiO X5 used in DAC mode with Mac OSX 10.9 and selected as main system audio output device - is it possible to adjust the volume with volume control keys on the Mac keyboard?

Considering to use FiiO X5 as mobile Macbook Pro DAC instead of my Audioquest Dragonfly 1.2 (which is amazing for me). Their SQ should be very similar I guess?

You can't. You can only control your volume with X5 volume buttons and certainly with internal software volume slider (iTunes, VOX, Fidelia, etc)

Why would you put that it can support 6400 songs when the database can only handle 5800?

Because it supports 64,000 songs? At some regulation mp3 bitrate or other.

The database, which may or may not be increased soon, has nothing to do with it.

Admittedly you'd better have an ace %broad_category%/%fine_genre%/%specific_scene%/%drummer_s_hair_colour%/%favourite_monster_movie% filing system to be able to happily browse so many albums with this scrollwheel.

With the announcement of the 512GB SD card, you could fit 1 TB of music on it, be it with SD to micro SD card converters. :p
