The Fiio X5 Thread

Basically the back plate is a really thick sticker, you can use a spatula or something to get it off. Battery has a connector. Hardest part would be to get a replacement battery probably.

If it's just double sided tape then it should be easy to open, and I'm pretty sure the batteries will be made available as thousands of units will need them eventually.

Maybe as battery technology improves in time a bigger capacity cell will fit in the X5.

This will be useful in the future, when the battery's capacity cuts in half. Just buy a battery and replace, a new X5 !

Absolutely, as the standards of this technology isn't going to be outdone anytime soon we should get decades of moons usage.

Man, I thought I was the old guy on the board having the original Sony cassette player in my folks car. Listening to the likes of Hendrix, Clapton and the Doors in 67. You are Old!!! And obviously cool! Very funny post...

X5 and B&W P7's on my nightly walks = nirvana :)

But, you hold a guitar any way that feels good - like a woman :beerchug:

this is a nice question to put on this thread while i am stil subscribed to it... what are the hardest to drive headphones that someone managed to drive at full potential using only the x5?.....

also, for those who use it with mont blanc... what are the hardest to drive headphones that they managed to drive with mont blanc?....

It can drive the HD600 (300 ohm) and DT880 (250 ohm) perfectly fine for my tastes. Are they at full potential - I think that's a subjective call.  Are they good enough for me to listen to without needing an additional amp?

Yes - emphatically !

It can also drive the T1 (600 ohm) to a pretty loud level, but they are a little brighter than on my desktop set-up.  Could be the DAC.  Could be the amp stage.  Could be that they need more voltage.  Are they good enough to still enjoy in a pinch - again, for me, yes.

YMMV

My X5 now has enough hours on it to be less crisp on the high end.  My Altones sound much better with it, though I am awaiting my new A83s which should be here soon.  I also tried one of the custom firmwares, but that seemed to bring on more scratchy highs, so went back to the stock 2.2, which sounds very good.  All in all I am really enjoying the X5, the interface works well, no freezes or problems, and the sound is quite... mature.

Listening to Fidue A83 this morning switching back to Altone200 was a little underwhelming. A83 simply has the bigger Kahuna's.

Hey folks, I know this has been discussed here and there so apologies for asking about it now, but having just found myself moving from full-library shuffling to a more album-by-album approach, I am finding sorting a challenge with multi-disc albums and I'm wondering what the ideal tagging protocol is for this issue. Current setup is FW2.2 (most current, yes?)

I have tried tagging my tracks with Disc Number then Track number with and without dashes (e.g. 01 - 01 - Track Name.flac and 0101 - Track Name.flac), but both ways I see 01-01-track, 02-01-track, 01-02-track, etc. in the file browser. Is there a way around this without going to single files for each album with CUE sheets?

Lachlan - for multi-disc albums, I use following format:

1.01 - track name
1.02 - track name
1.03 - track name
......
2.01 - track name
2.02 - track name
2.03 - track name

It works really well.

So 1. and 2. work differently to 1- and 2-?

If so , thanks Brooko!!

Actually scratch that - it's the way I work it with folder view (file name), but for the tagged track numbers I combine both albums and number accordingly.  EG for 2 albums of 13 tracks, I number from 01 to 26.

Covers both bases.

Yeah - I think that's my next step
