I have x3. One thing that really annoys me is that when I listen to an album from an artist with multiple albums (under 'browse') and want to go back to album section of that artist to choose another album, it takes me all the way back to main menu. I need to click 8 times to get back to the album section! Really poor menu system. I am considering returning the x3 to the store for this reason alone. Does the x5 have this problem with the menu system?

I believe so, but to return it for this, that's a bit dramatic. As you could have seen over the past 6 months they've added a lot of functionality, fixed a lot of bugs, and listened to the head-fiers on what they want.

That's my opinion on this, and you get it for free ;)

FW 2.02 beta introduced the Play All by Artist subcategory and it works very well and organizes the tracks by album in the correct order. All other beta FW after 2.02 messed up the sorting so I'm sticking with 2.02b for now. There are threads to discuss the pros and cons of the beta FW for the X5, but rest assured the feature will be official and I believe it's coming to the X3 as well.

I'm not sure how many of the casual visitors of this thread are aware of the firmware mod thread, and the possibility to change some things, but wouldn't it be possible to replace some of the .bin files of 2.07b with those of 2.02b and get this part correct? (I will probably answer this question myself once i've booted up my PC at home)

Nice.
Very nice.
Very, very nice!

So this will be included in 3.00?

This, CH23, would be the cats pyjamas!

I've been simply enamoured with this feature and tried every beta since but I just can't lose the way it sorts so I've stuck with 2.02.

Looking forward to hear if you get it to work.

Wow! I finally tried 2.07Beta and it is a huge improvement over 2.0. When in the File Browser, you can now return to the Now Playing screen via the top left key without losing your place in the Browser. When you go back in via the top right key, you are right where you left.

Bravo!!! Fiio continue to impress with their willingness to listen and add requested features.

Regarding Playlists, it is a good start but it would be much more useful to have the ability to add songs from the File Browser instead of having to play the song first and add it from the Now Playing screen. What is required is to add a fifth icon (The Playlist + icon) to those that come up when you push the top left key in the File Browser. (It should actually be the first icon since it is the most useful.)

If Fiio can please add that icon, the X5 will have a dynamic Playlist to greatly match basic functionality of Rockbox and the Calyx M. You can start listening to a Playlist and then add songs on the fly from the Browser.

James and Joe, I hope that you can do this. The X5 just keeps getting better. Count me as very pleased and admiring of your efforts...!

Sadly i couldn't do it. There are some .bin files, but they are only text related, there is only one system file and i can't decode it...

I tried something else as well, because i was very curious if it was possible.

The X3 and X5 both share the same firmware base, and i wanted to know if it were possible to use the x3 firmware on the x5.

Now, when you flash the x5 with x3.fw simply renamed to x5.fw it'll tell you "wrong firmware" so then i tried to unpack it as x3.fw and repack as x5.fw (with the batch files for their respective fws)

This "works"

You get the x3 boot screen, and after that the screen turns pink.

Curiosity may kill the cat, but luckily i could reflash my x5 back to it's own firmware.

I had to take the mSD card out to put back the correct firmware, as the device was going in a failed DAC-mode, that was a moment when i thought "oops" to myself.

But my curiosity has been satisfied, and that's why i did it :P

using the LO of the X5 with the stepdance amp i am finding that the volume on the amp is already at normal listening levels once you click it on - turning it a fraction becomes too loud -

Gain is set to L

are you guys finding similar with other amps ? the SQ is great but would prefer the amp to be at mid volume for normal loudness

edit-i dont normally use the eq but if i set it to custom without any actual changes it drops the volume by a few db which helps slightly

Make sure your StepDance's gain is set to low as well.

Same here, using X5 + Vorzuge Duo + Ditta

Curious whether @Duncan has the same experience with his rig (X5+Duo+UE I believe)
