I hope not. FiiO  certainly don't need to copy what iRiver and HifiMan are doing. They are doing just fine on their own.

Funniest comment of the day!!

Would have been even more fun had I not actually bought not one but both of these.... I blame James for 1) releasing the X3 too slow - that got me into AK100 and subsequently 120 and 2) releasing X5 too slow - that got me into 901 to get better sound than AK120!!

When should we actually expect X5 to hit the markets?

lol, we are target to different market and customer.  I think it will not a bid deal to you to buy an X3 or X5 because it is not so expensive.

James you're right. My curiosity would eventually got the better of me anyway LOL.

I had actually ordered an X3 and a pair of H-200 for my bro as his upcoming birthday gift. Even I owned these expensive DAP I still think X3 is the DAP to get for most people who don't live on Head-Fi. It is very user friendly, looks good, sound great, pocketable sized, and most importantly sensibily priced !

Who knows? Someone may go completely the other way and eliminate the DAC chip altogether. You don't actually need a DAC chip to do DA conversion;)

I have used the Sony PCM-M10 recorder as my DAP for over two years, now.

Proprietary sigma-delta DAC (a wee bit bright and very slightly grainy compared to the best possible SQ, 9/10 IMHO)
Headphone jack can be programmed as Line Out to bypass internal amp
Supports MP3 and WAV to 96/24
4GB of internal memory
MicroSD card reader supports 64GB and 128GB when reformatted to FAT
Files can be copied between internal and MicroSD - either direction
Gapless playback within a folder
UI is bug-free but designed for recording, not for playback (no playlists or other typical DAP features)
Folders can only be one layer deep (my folders have names like "Pink Floyd - The Wall")
Built like a tank
Mass production pricing - a massive bang for the buck
It's beautiful
And it's a recorder!

What's the size of the X5 or if someone could direct me to a post besides the first one that includes all the info?

Well, pretty much nothing is revealed yet, so I don't think any of us (except James himself) can help you on this question.

Cheers.

Just wanted to check. If it has a small form factor like the AK series, I'll keep a look out for the X5, otherwise, I'll pass.

I have heard rumors that it'll be similar in size to the IPC.... but sure any validity to this tho!

yes, it is a little bigger than IPC

I presume the IPC stands for the iPod Classic?

Sorry. Not up to touch with all the lingo, abbreviations etc.
