X5 has arrived, courtesy of the good speedy people at EA in the UK. I haven't had a chance to give it much of a run-out yet, but it loves 'Death On Two Legs' by Queen in a 44.1/16 FLAC! First impressions are astonishing.

Loading my microSD cards up for a longer test.

Thanks, and well done on a fantastic product to all at Fiio...

I'm thinking of buying the X5. Excuse my ignorance, but how much space on the device is there, without microSD cards, and what is the maximum storage for these cards, 64 x 2, 128 x 2 ?? ( I've never purchased a DAP with SD cards before. )

Yes, built in storage = zero.

You need to use microSD card, and the current maximum size on a single card is 128GB, which is pretty expensive (2 of them can equal an X5). I'll recommend SDXC (Class 10) 64GB instead.

I hope to receive my JH Roxanne soon! I will post my impressions of the X5/Roxanne combination als soon as I have them.
Waiting on the Roxanne since Black Friday... But hope to get the X5 next week:)!

Can't wait to hear your impressions of X5 + JH Roxanne. My X5 should arrive pretty soon and I can't wait to try it out with my UE900. Meanwhile, I've been drooling over the JH Roxanne for almost a month now. My poor wallet just can't handle it

Sandisk Ultra 64 a good bet to order while awaiting X5?

I've ordred the Fiio from Amazon UK/AV Shop as they have an earlier date than EA Audio, who are awaiting a 2nd delivery in about 10 days.
Anyone else ordered through AV Shop (never heard of them) via Amazon UK?

The X5 have no built in memory from what I know

Yeah, that's what everyone says. But I there should be some on-board memory for the OS. But bottom line is that's not accessible for music files. All non-OS files gotta go on the micro SDs.

BTW, will FIIO enable the X5 to read both micro SDs as just 1 single database (is this even possible, I wonder) ... sorta like JBOD???

Hi Andrew, I ordered my recent Fiio E12 & LOD cable, from AV Shop, without any problems. If I recall correctly received the next day ?

Yeah.. I was lucky to jump ship on Black Friday:) saved me some bucks! I was also lucky to get the CF upgrade when it still was 200$ instead of the 500$ now...
If I will get them really late... I might include the Calyx M in the impression as I am thinking of getting the M as well when it comes out. I am very interested to hear the differences between the M and the X5 when using Roxanne.

Thanks Rob, good to hear. Amazon seems a safe bet, but AV Shop don't seem to sell elsewhere, and only EA Audio were listed as UK distributers by Fiio. EA honestly told me that I may get it quicker from EA Audio as all their first batch accounted for.

I believe FiiO have a built in memory for X5 but it is rather small and can be only used for the OS.
