Wait, did you get the x3 to work as a dac for the iphone 5?

I had only tried my iPad (which has always worked with USB DACs (some needed a powered hub, some did not).   I had tried using a USB DAC with iphones before IOS 7 with no luck (device not supported message - I had read that the device mfg had to pay a royalty to get it to work), but since you asked, I just tried it on my wife's 5s and YES it does work!; I was able to play itunes radio through the X3 (iphone 5s --> lightning to 30 pin adapter --> 30 pin CCK --> powered USB hub --> X3)

Great news, just ordered the cck. Which powered hub do you have? I know most of them work but I don't have one so I may as well buy the same :)

I thought the Lightning-to-30 pin adapter had a Wolfson DAC built in.

ok i managed to figure out how to use x3 as dac for my xperia z ultra, but boy it drains my xperia z ultra battery so so so fast, i think one of the most important updates we need for x3 is to allow us using the dac without charging the x3 at the same. Maybe this is already available but i don't know how to turn of charging the x3 when using it as dac for my xperia z ultra

now here comes the maybe not a good feedback to sound quality of my x3 player as a stand alone player, its way way behind the quality I hear when i use the x3 as a dac on my xperia z ultra.

with using the x3 as dac on my xperia z ultra boy the sound is greatttttt

maybe I need more guidance from you guys maybe i am wrong, but for me I now care about the ability of using the x3 as dac for my xpeia z ultra without charging the x3 when connected to my phone

So I paired my newly JH13 with the X3 today and I found an excellent match. I also decided to stop being lazy and update the firmware. It was pretty easy and straightforward after I found the instructions. Also on another note I've decided to sell the DX50 as I like the X3 better. I'm trying out the usb dac/amp function and it's pretty cool that they have this additional feature. It wasn't the original intent but definitely makes it an even better value if someone wanted a usb dac/amp as well.

James, if you could include a set of instructions in the firmware downloads in the future I think that would be helpful to many.

What was your deciding factor for selling your DX50?

It's bigger and heavier than the X3, the UI is much worse and I liked the sound of the X3 better. If only the X3 had a headphone out on the bottom instead of the top but can't have it all.

all you need is our new E18 which is designed for Android phone . the X3 will consume the power from your phone and there are not switcher to turn off it.

Hi there,

New member, please be gentle

I am curious, will an X3 have ample output voltage (if thats the right term) to drive my trs jack input into my car?  I have a Philips raga for instance and even at max volume it isn't useable with the car's volume on essentially max as well (and of course then sounds terrible).  I have a Nokia 920 and it can do it but it makes a small noticeable click (for lack of better description) each time it goes to the next track - it also quite simply gets drained way to fast relative to the length of my drives.  My notebook computer can do it no problem...but now I have to have a notebook up and running in the car and it of course also then needs to be running off a dc power supply or it won't last more than a few hours.

Would an X3 be able to easily drive the audio in the car (I am sure its no problem for 99% of headphones).

I guess as an aside, how good (or bad) is the interface?  The one thing I really like about the notebook use is that I can use MusicBee and the sort by genre or easily find songs by name or album of whathaveyou.

Finally, how bad is this mp3 'bug' and is it going to be fixable?  I have a complete collection of music in flacs (and the odd wav) so am fine there but every now and then you get stuck with mp3s (mp3 only album off Amazon for instance).

Any thoughts appreciated.

Regards,

Scott
