You should split your library in 2 macro folders (at least). My X3 reads 256 folders on my 64GB Transcend card and 258 folders on the SanDisk one. I've splitted my +300 music library in two and it works like a charm!

I have over 3000 files, I've split them into multiple folders by alphabet, all the artists with A go into the A folder, etc.

For whatever reason, two sections refuse to be read, all my artists beginning with D and all those with E.
I figure their may be a corrupt file in each that is messing up the reading of the folder.
I have almost 64gb of music that I am trying to put into the device. It reads probably all but about 7 gb's,

Would you recommend the purchase of this device, as it is now? I'm reading it has a lot of issues, but I really need a new DAP, since my Clip+ is on its last legs.

I think it's actually quite good, except for my issues, which are related to the amount of files I want to carry around, I think it's an excellent player, imho.

most of the issues are firmware related.. (which Fiio is committed to continue to improve).most of the whining is around "why isnt this like an ipod?" the bottom line is that those issues do not prevent you from enjoying music using this device. battery life, durability, sound quality and portability are all above average for a sub-200usd device

Not so  knowledgeable in these things-will those x3 updates noted above be software based? I am waiting for delivery of my x3, from the post it sounds like this would be available to current owners as a download

Yes. James will announce firmware update and provide links for download usually in this thread. The firmware file usually comes in a zip archive. You will need to download and unzip the file and its extension is .fw
You will then need to copy this .fw file into a blank microSD card formatted in FAT32 format. Press the "power" and "back" buttons together for a few seconds and the device will initiate a firmware update.

I am experiencing an issue with the Catalog feature.  My issue is that after loading and delete a number of tracks on the microSD card I manually update the catalog but after a successful update I go into the Catalog function and I see old songs in Album sections and when I select the Artist section I receive a "Playback failed. File not found" error.  I have pushed the reset button on the top of the device as well as the software reset to factory defaults but he problem persists. I have even deleted all of the songs on the device and when I go into Catalog it still shows song titles.  Is there a way to reset the Catalog files/database?

The music plays fine when I select the files through the Browse Files option.

please email to support@fiio.net, our staff will help you solve this problem.

Myself and others have experienced this issue or one very similar to it. I don't know if there is a way to reset the Catalog Files/Database but i have found that the only way to fully remove all traces of deleted files is to connect the X3 to your PC or Mac and delete the files that way. It would appear that the X3's onboard file deletion function is basically useless.

yes, there are some bugs but we will fix it in the future firmware. in fact, this can be fixed by deleted the database file in PC/Laptop, please email to support@fiio.net to get help about this. the reason why we don't release to public is because maybe people will have problem to deleted the right database files

Just received word that my X3 should arrive this week! I'm pumped. This will be my first non-iDAP and I think for the price I paid, I'm certainly getting plenty of bang for my buck! My reshelled TF10s should be very happy.

Hello James,
could you tell me/us what about fixing problem with distorssion in the left channel in ogg vorbis files? Most of my library is ogg vorbis and it's a big problem for me. When do you plan fix this problem? I know you will fix it in the future, but I want to know some approximate date.

Thank you and regards
Artur

James knows about the OGG playback issue. I had emailed him when units first hit Hong Kong about it. (I think around June)
Sadly I don't get much more of a reply then"we are working on it".
That may well be the truth , it may be big issue, it may be hard to fix I honestly don't know.
Maybe China uses don't use ogg I can't comment.
I do feel king of frustrated though

BTW, it may not suitable to share with you guys but we are trying to add the USB decoder feature in X3 , and will see if we can make X3 support DSD play and some other new features ( OTG ) .

Yes, please add USB OTG to X3, James.

It will allow an user to connect a 2TB self-powered portable hard drive. Alternatively, using an external USB DAC/amp is also enabled by OTG.

With OTG on X3, I don't see any special reason to buy an iBasso DX50.

If I were to use a self-powered portable hard drive, I might as well be in front of a computer. I can't see any justifiable use cases to even go through the trouble to implement OTG.

OK, it may take a whole day to update the music library if someone connect X3 with a 2T or 3T hard disk, I don't think it is a good idea :)

people need to know the music library is created by iTune in PC, but not in iPod/iPHone, so there may only very few people will like to try this. also don't forget each time you plug or unplug

the hard disk, the DAP have to update again, that is why iPod/iPhone never support extra TF/SD card.
