I don't think there is a dap with this form factor at this price which can produce as good the hi-res sound in the market.

Well, at least until the iBasso DX50 comes out in a few days. Virtually the same price point and potentially better sounding than the FiiO X3, but that will be completely subjective. Still, I am happy with my X3's sound quality, I hadn't heard about the DX50 at the time I purchased my FiiO, and to be honest even if i had, I would probably still have bought the X3, as it's available from a local dealer with all the support that entails.

I do not have a iBasso dealer in my area, and neither does 99% of the rest of the world either. it would appear. I'm not really keen on buying expensive electronics  sight unseen sound unheard, online from overseas companies purely for the reasons that if you need service either in or out of warranty you have to go through the hassle and considerable cost of shipping the product back to the manufacturer, and if you simply don't like it, the same applies. I am not sure about other people here who purchased an X3 from a dealer, but my dealer told me to return the unit to him if it needs repair and he will take care of getting it to and from FiiO  whiles it's under warranty and charge me or for the cost of shipping one way if the repair is non-warranty. That alone is a major factor in deciding which product to choose for me.

Yes, I have gapless enabled.
I am using the time counter to measure the gap.

Can i ask you what you mean by time counter?

Did you enable gapless playback in the X3? (Player Settings -> Gapless Playback | ON)?

Have ordered an x3 and reading this thread off and on. To each his own, of course, but if one is going the >$500 route, seems the iBasso, A and K (the 100 with mods is still in the ballpark), Hifiman, and of course the upcoming x5. Wanted a not-too-expensive carry around DAP now, but would be interested in how these compare to the modded and unmodded x3 (not all available now, of course).

ibasso dx100 is really big in reality, not something u can put in your jeans pocket
hifiman 901 (balance) costs double the price of modded x3 but it is also a lot bigger than x3... but if we just measure the SQ, it is totally worth it hence I bought one
AK120 costs double the price of modded x3, but I would rather take my chances with 901...
RWAK100-S costs double the price of a modded x3 plus you need to carry an amp
RWAK100 costs more than the modded x3 and I am unsure of the SQ because I have never heard of it..I read that it is about removing the 22 ohms
RWAK120-S is just total madness...
HIFIET MA-8 with balance card is around the same price but it is really big and ugly...and still not support high res files...
AK100 , hm...I like the stock X3 better...just personal taste...

and then it is ibasso dx50 which we will soon know the result this week...

Anyway, I hope you will enjoy your x3.

Did you try a different cable? That one (unless it works with other devices properly) might have something wrong with the conductors. In any case, did you check if the receiver has a spare coax input?

While it is certainly possible the y-splitter is at fault, it's not worth the effort or money to buy a new one.  I haven't even tried the coax out, since it would bypass the DAC in the X3.  This was to be an A-B test between the X3, which has the same Flac files as an external USB drive connected to my Oppo DVD player.  Thus, I already have an excellent feed of my music in my home entertainment system.  I might try the coax out, but I know my AV tuner's DAC is not quite as good as the Oppo's.

we can release an official document to help people mod their own X3 . with 8741 to replace 8740, and lmh6643 or ad8620 to replace ad8397 .

but remember the modded X3 will lost warranty service .

for anyone who mod X3 with 8741, just connect the pin22 to pin23 with a 10k resistor or direct connect. them the 8741 will support the 192k/24b without any problem.

Your awesomeness is just incredible.

Please add the OTG feature. It would be so nice. Also a mod-documentation.
