Does anyone know if there is an upgraded DAC driver for Windows 10?
Thanks

I do feel gen1 seems to have better dynamic range.

And while we're at it, try to use eq, set all sliders to the lowest so it should still have a flat fr, then set gain to high (or just leave it low, depending on your head/earphone).
Basically, it just lowers the "pre-amp" stage and gives you more dynamic range, at the cost of lower max volume.
Audio bliss.

So is this basically like compression? Where lower volumes in a recording are picked up more easily?

No. More like the volume turned down by about 6db. Using the line out to an amp, it does give a bit more usage to the volume knob. I really don't see how it would affect the HO dynamics though

How is this different from having eq off??

It looks as though Jnjy is saying that the dap is on the edge of clipping when files have a large dynamic range and lowering the level to the pre amo makes another 6db available. Maybe it takes a 'rough edge' away on loud sections.

I must try this to see if I detect it as well.

I think it more has to do with avoiding clipping. Distortion due to clipping may mask some detail. If the system is able to produce less distortion, less details get masked up - or saying another way, details get heard more.

Maybe keep an eye out for my Hidizs AP100 review, should be done by this week. I haven't owned a X3 but from what I have heard it does sound better. It retails for $300 (and comes with a nice case that would easily cost $50 if bought seperate).

I *think* the AP100's on sale on Amazon in the US for $40-50 off right now.
