The other day i went through my whole music library in foobar, and mads sure all my tags were right and the grouping was all right, i also got 1500x1500 album covers for my music because i use dark one theme on foobar and high def covers look awesome.
If i put the songs on the x3 would the album covers get scaled down and become a blurred mess or does the x3 do a good job in making album covers look good.

I believe any images larger than 1100x1100 will result in no artwork displayed. No conversion is done.

Sorry. It is possible newer firmware will raise that limit. I use DarkOnev3.1 myself, I gave the application it's own monitor. (two monitor setup). I do all my artwork at 600x600 and it seems okay. I am almost tempted to try seeing what you see.

I've also had the x3 freeze/stall library scan with some artwork bigger than 1000x1000. The x3 seems to auto scale largish artwork ok, but I prefer to have musicbee scan everything down to native resolution while it transfers (smaller file size =  more music)

I've been golden since using only album art between 400x400-600x600 max.

That is a 2400 x 2400 album cover lol
So I have lots of different answers, what is the max it will take?

As for the max I think it's just over 1000x1000.

However, why on earth would you want your device to lock-up and struggle with giant album art on a screen that can only display 240x320? I get that it's convenient to have one resolution for desktop and portable, but this is not realistic.

You'd just be asking for issues as the built in RAM is limited on the X3. A good safe compromise has been 600x600, as mentioned earlier.
