  With audiophile headset you will hear difference between 24/48 and 24/96. So if you have one go with 24/96.

Oh, yeah, I wouldn't even consider 48/24.  I mean, we're talking about the X3 here.  48/24 is too close to iPod territory.
96/24 and 192/24 sound very fine with my SR 80i.  I was just wanting to hear from some people who do vinyl rips… what settings they use.

First I wouldn't generalize that 24/48 is "not worth the work" you put into ripping. There are albums that are just amazing in 24/48. On the other hand, if you do your own vinyl rips, I'd also suggest to set 24/96. This is IMO the sweetspot between resolution and filesize. You will be happy, I assure you

If I am not mistaken there is a 500px x 500px size limit for the X3.  I don't know that that has been increased.  Is the artwork embedded in the music file?

**** my X3 was in my pocket in a rainstorm and now one channel doesn't work. Both for headphone and line out jacks.

Open it up and use a dryer on it and let it sit for a day.  If that doesn't work, then there is no fixing it, something got shorted out.

Dryer? Wouldn't that melt a few things or maybe send some charges that could short it out?
Usually when my electronics get soaked, I don't even turn it on and stick it in uncooked rice.

As for that X3.  Although I hope it will come back to life, but I don't think there is much hope left for it.  Lessen learned and not to use electronics in the rain.

I got a Sansa Clip Zip and a pair of Klipsch X10's to work after getting them soaked (they fell in a sink full of water) by putting it in a jar of dry rice for a couple days...you may luck out. Keep it turned off until you get it dried out.

lol rice?  That's a new one.  Hair dryer always works for me.  That's what I do when I solder stuff.  wash with water to rinse off resin, then hair dry and leave for a day.

It's funny to me that someone would so easily dismiss a 24/48 recording and opt for a 24/96 recording. I'd be willing to bet $500 the same person could not reliably pick one from the other in a double blind test. I have a program that automates such testing including adjusting the volume differences between files and I can reliably pick between one cd version and a "remaster" version of an album. But 24/48 and 24/96? You'd have to be pretty tuned in to reliably hear that difference. I'll have to try it. Maybe I can win $500 fro me.

I don't see why not to opt in for 24/96 if you can. If you have the capacity to store larger files there is no drawback to higher quality tracks even if you don't hear the difference (assuming your device can decode them correctly). But to be honest I wouldn't go higher than 24/96 because while there is a benefit of going higher than 48khz (to about 60khz) and there are just few tracks where I can hear the difference I've never been able to hear the difference between 96 and 192.

My thinking is on my X3 with only one card slot and a current limit of 120 GB I would rather have two albums at 24/48 than one album at 24/96. I'm not sure I can tell the difference between 24/48 and 24/96. I'm sure lots of people think they can. On my computer where I have endless terrabytes of storage the 24/96 files live happily. But on my portable device I  am fine with 16/44.1 FLAC. I used to be fine with LAME encoded Extreme Mode MP3. Not anymore. Ya know?
 
I get the reason why people think 24/96 is better. I just think a lot of those people are fooling themselves. Thankfully our X3 X5 players take care of us both.
