I gather that I did not expressly say the unit has hardware level eq but no freaking knobs.

Can't wait. Lots of FLACs that this FW doesn't read, unlike previous ones. But those sound so bad in comparison that I've been patiently waiting.

I would have thought that setting sliders to the middle would be flat eq. Wouldn't. Moving to the bottom introduce some peeks and valleys in the eq curve?

Check for multi-channel if they are multi channel flac files... i use windows and bd poweramp to check for that

That's weird. I don't think I had that happen. Usually if a flac get corrupted in a transfer or something they'll skip like crazy, but the x3 will still try to play them.
 
Any chance of posting a flac or 2 to dropbox or something so we can investigate further?
